During our one-day layover in Zurich, my family and I searched online for “interesting restaurants in Zurich for dinner,” and Napoli da Gerardo caught our attention. The restaurant exceeded our expectations. Visually, it was fascinating, with eclectic decor featuring art that adorned every corner of the room - even the ceiling. The atmosphere felt like a blend of an old church and an unconventional art museum.
From the moment we entered, we were warmly welcomed by Gerardo himself, who greeted us with a complimentary glass of champagne and bruschettas at our table. Since we couldn’t read the Italian/Swiss menu, Gerardo enthusiastically recommended various dishes for us to try. His passion was contagious, so we trusted his suggestions—and we’re so glad we did.
The meal was an abundant feast: flavorful pasta, perfectly cooked meats, vibrant vegetables, and a showstopping Branzino sea bass baked in salt. Every bite was scrumptious. The combination of the ambiance, Gerardo’s warm hospitality, and Natalie’s attentive service made for an unforgettable dining experience. It truly felt like enjoying a home-cooked meal with friends, and it was the highlight of our short...
Read moreOverall a nice experience, the person serving us was probably the owner himself and told us that the restaurant is over 80 years old. Service: we were very happy with the service as they served complimentary drinks with very tasty Bruschetta and after our order they also served complimentary Watermelon slices which was really thoughtful and nice. I haven’t seen any restaurant doing such things for their guest.❤️
Service: service was also quick and nice, cannot comment with a full house as when we went there we were the only ones. 🤗
Ambiance: It’s something that I didn’t enjoy. The place is small and the interior is filled with vintage decor, not just the floor but the walls were packed with big frames etc. being an interior appreciator myself I cannot stand such chaos and start feeling claustrophobic and I am not that in personal life. So we decided to sit outside which was much better. Cutlery was dirty but I think that was real silver and it tends to get dirty if not cleaned in a certain way. But still didn’t felt good in eating with those.
If you’re a person who likes Vintage and cluttered (closely packed) spaces then...
Read moreI walked into here having no idea what would be behind the door. I walked in about 10 minutes after they opened with no reservation. That was my mistake, I'd suggest making a reservation.
Even though I just walked in Gerardo and Nadia made me feel very welcome.
Gerardo came out and we chatted a little while. In my nature, I apologized for only knowing English and causing communication barriers. He assured me that it was alright and said that he could sense that I'm a good man.
As I was sitting there they gave me what I believe was bruschetta as an appetizer without me having to ask.
I ordered the Spaghetti ai Pomodorini. It didn't take long at all before it was in front of me.
I cleaned my plate. He joked that he wouldn't have to clean the dish which gave me a chuckle.
Gerardo told me he'd bring me something special for me
I was brought watermelon slices initially which honestly was enough for me however they actually came around again with a desert that I don't know the name of. I'll include it in my photos.
Ultimately this was a lovely experience and I'd love to...
