I was at DAR yesterday and I chose DAR Journey. The dinner was divided into three: an appetizer a main course and a desert.
I must admit, an entry was promising and delicious, but the main course it must have been a joke, really.
I've never written bad reviews because I believe people can make "mistakes" but the main course was more than a mistake and costed a lot (we paid 180 chf for this... pleasure) so I had to write it.
Main course was combined with 4 different parts: mushrooms, some mash of potatoes + lentils, a corn salad with crushed nachos and cheese sauce and a leek salad. All of this was a complete disaster.
I am not sure if people are so naive that they eat some mash of potatoes + lentils and believe that this is something sophisticated only because they pay a lot? This dish reminded me of some crap they sell at mountain huts and that you would never try.
Then a corn salad with crushed nachos and a cheese sauce - Cool, because it's so homey and tastes familiar, right? Everyone eats nachos with cheese sauce in front of the TV, so what's the problem? No, not everyone. It was a dish with a familiar taste, probably the best from all others from main course, but in a restaurant that considers itself refined and elegant? I don't think it's a good decision.
The mushrooms that pretended to be chicken were ok, but in general too fatty, and the leek salad was simply bland, apart from the sauce, which was very interesting.
And I'll just skip the fact that it just didn't look right, that the beige-brown mess and leek salad didn't look appetizing.
And then, the dessert. A tiny dessert served for two people in one dish. It's an absolute joke. Why are they forcing me to eat from one dish with another person? It's unappetizing and inappropriate. You don't always go to a restaurant with someone you want to eat from the same dish. Besides, for 80 Swiss francs per person, you could probably make an effort and make two, even small, separate desserts.
The dessert itself tasted okay, although I don't like whipped cream or custard, so I wasn't impressed.
I regret going there: it was a complete waste of money. My husband and I both felt bad after dinner because the food was just so heavy.
The big pluses were the appetizer, the service and the overall atmosphere of...
Read moreWe went to DAR for my mothers bithday, and decided on the more expensive ”journey” menu. It started of great with an presentation of the food and it was very tasty. After a few minutes it started going sideways, the dish we had gotten (a kind of soup) was purley made of the vegetables I had explained earlier that I was allergic to and I had an allergic reaction. Luckily my allergy isn’t that treathening and I could continue the dinner. The second dishes that were brought in included a few different meals with nuts, that we also were very clear with that my brother is allergic to. Luckily they told us that the dishes included nuts, and we could clairify once again that we had allergies. They brought a supplement dish for my brother and we thought everything was fine. That was the last round of meals that we got, and finally we went to the bar and told them that we were tired and didn’t want to wait for the rest of the food… We spent 3 hours around the table, and got served food that we had made clear beforehand that we were allergic to (and reasured that they could make supplement dishes) until we decided to get up and leave (it was already around 22:30, and we arrived at 19:45) After they had reduced the price a little because we left before all the dishes had come, we payed a total...
