We decided to come to this restaurant because we saw a lot 5 star reviews but our experience was not even close to a 5 star experience. We had first ordered three appetizers and we were surprised on how small the portions were. Each plate only had 3 pieces of chicken on it and when we asked the waiter he told us that these plates are just for "biting." The taste was also bland, cold and wasn't enjoyable to eat. For the main course, we ended up ordering a thali with a chicken dish and that was decent in taste which we were satisfied with. When asked to make the dishes spicy the owner told us they usually don't make their dishes spicy but they would try. Per our request and they did make the one chicken dish in the thali spicy to our liking which we appreciated. We had also ordered mango lassi's and they were pink in color and had no taste. It tasted like we were drinking plain yogurt/milk and i've personally never seen a pink mango lassi in my life. When they brought us the check, we saw that they added 4 beers and 4 lassi's. We had only ordered 2 lassi and 2 beers so we were confused on how this mistake was made. When asking the waiter, he told us that the lassi's were mistakenly put in twice because the waiter and the owner put in separate orders. When we asked about the beers, the waiter couldn't properly explain why the beers were doubled in quantity and why there were two different types of beers put on the tab as well. It seemed like they purposely added more items to the bill. The owner was nowhere to be seen when we asked about this and it looked very suspicious. I would not recommend this place because the food is not that great and I would check the bill twice before paying. We are very disappointed to give our hard earned money to this establishment. This is our opinion and this is what we have unfortunately experienced. We previously deleted our original review because the owner intimidated and threatened to sue over sharing...
Read moreWe recently had an extremely disappointing experience at Tamarind Garden Indian Restaurant in Zurich. While the food was acceptable, the service was absolutely not!
Upon receiving our bill, we noticed a charge for “Offen Bar” amounting to 2 CHF. When we inquired, we were told this was for the wet wipes provided before the meal. We had asked for hand sanitizer when we walked in, and were given wet wipes instead, with no mention that they were chargeable.
When we asked to speak with the owner, the person serving us claimed to be the owner and insisted we pay for the wet wipes. He was extremely rude and threatening in his mannerism. A lady then joined the conversation, speaking to my wife in a condescending manner. She mentioned that they even provided complimentary papad and questioned why we would dine out if we couldn’t afford the 2 CHF. She said, “I have seen Indians going to restaurants and ordering only one dish. Why do you go when you Indians don’t have money?” This was not only insulting but also unprofessional.
Furthermore, the man then stated we would have to pay for the complimentary papad as well! He threatened us. Feeling harassed, we called the police. Only then, they backed down.
This experience was not about 2 CHF money but about the basic principle of honesty, respect & hospitality. Such behavior towards customers is unacceptable. We left feeling insulted and bitter. These people need to understand that Indians are among the most well-to-do people, and that is why they have opened an Indian restaurant in Zurich.
I would strongly advise potential diners to double-check their bills before paying and to be aware of the hidden charges. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Tamarind Garden Indian Restaurant and will not be returning. It was a pathetic experience.
