Tiny but extraordinarily charming bar. Seating for 11, maybe 12 if you're married. Cash only. Some English spoken. Good spectrum of international and local liquors. Typical pricing.
This place wasn't busy on a Saturday night about 8pm, but it filled up quick. And for good reason. The menu has a curated list of perhaps 25 cocktails, and an additional 15 or so signature cocktails. But don't let that limit your imagination. If you have a hankering for something in particular, ask. The bartender is happy to accommodate if possible.
I started with a personal favorite that isn't always readily accessible in this part of the world - the Paloma. House tequila is El Jimador Plata, which is fine enough for a mixed drink. Asked if I needed it salty or not and I said no. Definitely was not oversweet, but well-balanced. A floral hint to it, a whisper of St. Germaine or perhaps just orange flower water. Delicious and refreshing.
I asked if they had absinthe and they did - both green and red varieties. I asked about a Sazerac and she didn't blink. Offered me a choice of rye whiskeys. Served the leftover absinthe in a shot glass alongside a perfectly balanced Sazerac. She confided later it was only the second one she'd ever made, but she did it proud.
Cocktails are the main draw here but they do have a few light appetizer-type options in case you're in need. Their whiskey bread pudding is a flan in a delicious tasting caramely/butterscotchy whiskey reduction. Pleasant without being overly sweet. A good counterpoint to the Paloma. Their smoked chicken wings take a bit longer after ordering them but are well worth the wait. Salty, a little spicy and with an enjoyable crispiness to them. The smoked flavor is very pronounced and the meat is tender. This paired well with the sweeter Sazerac.
I would have gladly stayed the night here sipping Casamigos with the bartender. Mix of locals and foreigners. Seating for 5 at the bar, a table for two, and what looks like seating for 4-5 people in a side room. Small but cozy and they make you feel at home. Definitely will be bringing others here my next time...
