SMARTFISH (Guanghua Branch) — Restaurant in Chiayi

Excellent fish soup, but satay sauce is an ingredient in the soup. That’s not to everyone’s taste, but I like the slightly sweet and spicy taste. We ordered the soup with fish head for 2-3 people, it was perfect for the two of us, we were feeling full when we finished. But then a lady came around, and they refill the soup! That was great but we couldn’t finish the refill, it was a bit too much. The turkey rice is better in other places in this city, the local signature dish. Veggie combo is randomly selected everyday so you never know what you’ll get. We got eggplants, bitter melon, and celery with a dipping sauce. We got a sour plum ice drink and it was perfect in this hot weather. I’ve ordered this soup to be delivered to my place in Taipei, that cannot compare to eating it fresh in this restaurant. Even though the queue was quite long (we had to wait around 50+ numbers at 6:30pm) but I think it’s worth trying. I would recommend it to anyone...

The fish soup was not as nice as expected from all the other reviews. Had a familiar taste when first taste of the soup and was wonder what was the taste, till my wife commented that it taste like laksa! There were lots of ingredients in the soup. I also didn’t like the fish as it has lots of bones… not recommended for small kids and maybe elderly. There was another branch a few hundred metres away, nearer to the night market and it has a long queue there. I personally recommend to come to this branch as its queue system is by messaging, thus you do not have to stand around the shop to wait for your turn and you can walk around the area while waiting.The other shop has lots of people queueing outside as it is by paper queue...

Very busy place, so come outside lunch or dinner time if possible. There are 2 sections, on the right people queue for take away. On the left there's a machine which you use to get a number. Don't forget to take a piece of paper next to it for your order. Mark what you want in that piece of paper. It's only in mandarin, so hopefully your Google translate is ready. Wait till your number get called, give the staff the piece of paper and pay. Then you'll be directed where to your table.

I find the fish soup dish is alright. It's good to try I guess. Just be careful when you eat the fish as it has...
