I'd heard good things about this place so decided to make a reservation & bring my family here for mother's day (we wanted to celebrate early to avoid the crowds). The food was good, but overall I regret coming here as the service was absolutely horrendous.
The waiter should really consider donating his vision & hearing to someone in need since he isn't using them. He might as well donate what minimal brain cells he has available as well while he's at it. Im not saying this to be mean or anything, but he visually SAW my grandmother struggling to walk across their first floor that was lined with empty tables and still insisted on having her climb down the stairs to their B1 floor. My heart was breaking watching her struggle down those stairs. It wasn't until i proposed we go elsewhere that the waiter offered us a table on the first floor. By then, she had already made it halfway down and had to struggle her way back up. If the seats on the first floor were available to begin with, why couldn't he have offered it from the start? Why was my grandmother made to suffer unnecessarily??
We sat down and were asked how we wanted our water. 1 person wanted it with lime, the rest without. The waiter had double confirmed with us and written it down. We all got water with lime. Since the bottle water here is sold at a premium, I'm not sure if this is a shady business tactic of theirs to purposefully prepare our water incorrectly so that we'd be forced to dump it out and buy more, or if the waiter really is that much of an airhead that he couldn't even prepare water correctly.
We order our meal and triple confirm that our order is correct just to be safe. Low & behold, we find out after the fact that 1 dish was missed. Normally I would've just let it go, but we had travelled over 3 hours to come here for this and actually really wanted to try that dish. We try to add it back to our order. We're told they're sold out. What a load of bs.
The most ironic part is that at the end of all this, we were slapped with a service fee on the bill. What service?
If you're masochistic and enjoy having your meals paired with waves of frustration, sadness, & anger, then by all means this is the...
Read moreI was looking forward to this place because obviously it is highly ranked on Asia’s Top 50 Bars, but unfortunately I found it a little disappointing. The atmosphere was fine and the servers were attentive and helpful. The food I had was very good, I don’t remember the name but it was a shrimp risotto with thin slices of wagyu. That was the best part of the dining experience.
The drinks I have to give more details on, since this is ultimately a bar- they were sadly hit and miss. I feel like a lot of attention has been put into coming up with some interesting cocktails, but it seemed like many of them were gimmicky and lacking in flavor. For example, for my first drink (“Wood Flora”) they just sprayed some kind of aromatic perfume over it when serving? And for my second (“Vintage Wood”), it came with a tiny bag of pop rocks candy that you’re supposed to eat while drinking, ostensibly adding the snapping of the candy to the experience. For what read on the menu as some variation of a whiskey and Coke, it was disappointing. My third drink (“Flora Wood”) was fantastic, which was surprising because the details of it seemed bizarre, including aloe, pineapple, coconut, popcorn and sea salt milk, but somehow it really worked.
With drinks costing between 400 and 500 NTD, I was hoping for a bit more. I’m not sure the place is worth the hype considering how many cocktail bars are in Taipei. I’d recommend giving it a try, but not worth too...
