This is not the original mango ice. The location is the original however the business is not. Smoothie House was a copycat opened several years ago in the neighborhood tried to steal part of business from the original Monster Ice. It took the chance to grab the lease when the MI owners got into divorce issue. Now this copycat is presenting like it is the original. If it served as good products then I would not complain. But the fact is that both quality and quantity of the mango they give you is a total ripoff. The owner is a very good business person knows how to promote everywhere and squeeze cash out of this cow, but does not seem to have interest to keep the product correct. I suggest to go a few steps on Yonkang toward Shinyin, on the left side there is the King Mango for a little better seatings, better product, and much more generous quantity.
follow up: After I posted the aforementioned article, Smoothie House replied with a post threatening to sue me. In fact if you read Chinese language you can easily surf the story that the original made famous mango ice place Bin-Guan (Ice shack) moved away few years ago due to the family issue. They now have many stores in Taipei under the name Ice Monster. If you are not in a hurry maybe you should take the subway or buses for few stops to try it....
Read moreFinally having a chance to eat here without standing in the queue! FYI, they will give you a strip of a number to wait for your shaved snow right after paying. I had a No.5 (Milk Snowflake Ice with Oolong Tea Jelly and Tapioca Pearls). The milk shaved snow here actually hits different no wonder it gets much more popular than other ice shops. The Oolong tea jelly also soft, authentic and delicious. The tapioca pearls were even sweeter than the normal ones in my opinion. Last but not least, it’s 100 out of 10, much to my satisfaction, definitely must-go place for tourists but having a chance to get a seat is relatively rare.
Edit: This time I tried the delectable Super Mango Snowflake Ice with Sorbet and it was also very delicious. The panna cotta went well with the mango ice and the mango fleshes were also fresh and sweet. In my experience, people got less here at rainy night...
Read moreIf you are a foreign visitor, and you have heard about this famous ice shop, but when you are there finding too many people line up, you can always try the second floor, it is indoor with air conditioning, and you won't need that much of time waiting like the ground one。 The difference between upstairs and downstairs, would be they only offer big size bow downstairs, but people can share the same one。At upstairs, they have 2 kinds of portion, the one same as downstairs, and small ones about half portion from it, and half priced too。 People worrying about they have minimum charge upstairs, don't be, because the minimum charge is lower than each small size bow you order。 And if you are visiting for the first time, I would suggest beginning with the smaller...
