This place is tiny and set beside a much bigger and busier shaved ice store but don’t let that dissuade you from giving this place a try. They have outdoor seating for about 16 people and give you a really traditional taste of Taiwan shaved ice. Lots of different flavors and toppings and me and my companion went for the traditional strawberry shaved ice with panna cotta and added a kind of topping I’d never had before: looks like boba but filled with sweet liquid so they burst when you bite them and had a mild cranberry flavor. Anyhow when the boss bright it to the table it was presented beautifully but they’d forgotten the extra topping we ordered. So I brings it back over to the counter so the boss can add the juicy balls. She says she’ll put them in a bowl, just as we clear that up though the panna cotta slides off the top of the dessert and I catches it with my hand. The boss sees this and then comps us another panna cotta. Bless her heart. I read a lot about how only a handful of desert shops survived through the pandemic, and I can see why Taroking was one of the few. The taro was fresh and soft, the milk ice was silky and flavorful, and the portion size was beyond generous for two! The couple there are so kind, and will definitely be back on our next visit!
