This place earned a relatively rare four stars rating I could bestow on a restaurant.
Some may consider I have fairly high standards for rating dining establishments. In truth, my standards only appear high as I take several factors into considerations.
First and foremost, the food served must be above average for the price charged. Therefore, the standards are inevitably higher for restaurants marked with four dollar signs than those with fewer dollar signs.
Secondly, the dining environment matters even though I usually overlook this factor when eating at road side stalls or night markets.
Last but not least, I am more than willing to uprate a restaurant from three to four stars if the service I received is exceptional.
Our party of three visited on a Tuesday night. The place was almost empty when we arrived around 6pm. At our departure around 8, the place was no more than half full.
I have partaken in several Thai restaurants in Taipei. This is easily the best one as each dish served that evening had distinct, multi-dimensional flavor. More importantly, the seasonings were complimentary to rather than overpowering of the ingredients.
The decor of the restaurant is pleasing. The table spacing is not as wide apart as I would like to see but is acceptable given the norm that I experienced in restaurants with similar price tags.
The waiter that evening provided service almost on par with those working in Michelin starred restaurants.
While I have no reservation about going back for a repeat visit, I cannot rate this place five stars as I do not feel compelled to visit irrespective of...
Read moreI personally do not understand the hype and high praise for this restaurant, we've been living in this area for over 20 years and finally decided to pay a visit as the recent reviews seem to be quite good. For a party of 4 we ordered six dishes including the moon shrimp cake, steamed fish with lemon, shrimp paste water spinach, green curry chicken, Thai basil chili pork and tom yum soup; all very typical dishes that an authentic Thai restaurant should handle with ease.
Pros: shrimp crackers at the beginning of the meal were really delicious, would've ordered more if we could. Cons: The order and time between dishes was too long for how pricy the dishes were. Our first three dishes were served rather quickly followed by nearly 20 minutes of inactivity (we assume it may be a delay caused by the large amount of Ubereat orders this restaurant takes), then after our complaints the final three dishes were served in an orderly fashion. The green curry chicken was especially disappointing as whenever you order curry, you expect the curry to at least cover the chicken, however this dish came with minimal curry and some wildly odd vegetable choices of chickpeas and very hard to chew string beans. Our six dishes came out to a total of nearly 3600nt, at that price, anyone would expect above average service and delicious food, but for most of our dining experience the food was either overly covered by the strong chili flavor or just lacking in the bold Thai flavors.
Overall, this was a very disappointing experience for us and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to try authentic...
Read moreI'm a happy guy! I've finally found a GOOD authentic Thai restaurant that also doesn't empty my wallet at each visit!
If you are looking for "Taiwanese Thai" food, then there are 100's of options all across Taipei. But for real Thai, the choices get small quick. But this on his on the top of my list. Most dishes are somewhere in the $200-$400 NTD range, and the portions are big enough to share.
I've been here twice now and each time I have been impressed with what has come out of the kitchen... I'm a big fan of Northern Thai food, and he has really impressed me with every one I've tried so far.
Even more, David, the owner, remembered us on the return visit and welcomed us into his restaurant like it was his home.
If you are a curry fan, you won't be disappointed, and he's very accommodating for adjsuting spicy levels or even making adjustments for special diet requirements.... This time he even personally went into the kitchen and made a Vegetarian Red Curry for us.
Bottom line: this is my favorite authentic Thai restaurant in Taiwan, and with a balance of fair prices and unbelievable service from him and his staff.
Just go and pick your favorite from the menu, you won't be...
