Drove by this place several times and saw a line ten plus persons deep each time. The popularity coupled with the Google Maps rating of four stars were sufficient to motivate me to make an effort to line up in a November afternoon and waited inline for over twenty minutes to purchase a few of the namesake buns.
As I was standing in line, I saw the way the buns were cooked, which was pan fried but the amount of oil used was quite excessive as compared to typical usage. While I recognized that oil usage is controlled by hand so there could be variations, the amount of oil in the pan to cook that particular batch was almost sufficient to fry the buns.
After witnessing the cooking, I had considered walking away but eventually decided not to due to the effort I made to be there. After I bit into a bun, I wish I had walked away prior to making the purchase. The bun was greasy yet the dough was not cooked evenly where the portion towards the center of the bun was undercooked. Furthermore, the bun was neither soft nor elastic which is to say there was no redeeming quality. The daikon filling appeared to be pretty fresh but lacked flavor.
Perhaps my expectation was raised unreasonably high by the combination of the lines I saw and the high Google Maps rating, I cannot, however, rate the buns higher than one star as I had rated buns that tasted better as two stars in my previous reviews. The fact that I wasted precious twenty minutes, not counting the time it took to get there and back, only exacerbated my negative experience.
This place is firmly on my do not return nor...
Read moreI think they raised the price, which is good because the quality of Radish pancakes are better now.
6/6/2025 I went back again around 1:00 p.m.. but the radish pancake has a lot more dough like in the previous review. So the inconsistency of thin radish pancake dough would be your luck of who is making the pancakes. Also realize that you could add an egg to the radish pancake, instead of on the green onion pancake. Which I think egg on the green and in pancakes tastes better.
6/1/2025 I realize the reason why the radish pancake has less radish. It is because both time I went there right before they're closing and they don't have much ingredients left so they try to stretch as much as possible. So you want regular amount of radish in the pancake. You should go between the hours of 12:00 noon to 5 pm.
Old For some reason their radish pancake has less radish then before. No it has more dough and less radish so from the outside he still...
Read moreI was attracted by the long line of people waiting for their Daikon pancakes, and thought to myself, those must be some good pancakes. And they are! They roll the pancakes, stuff them with Daikon, and deep-fry them right in front of you, none of that frozen or premade stuff.
The daikon pancake has a crispy crust, a soft chewy inside, and a mild but satisfying daikon stuffing with a hint of green onions. Their beanpaste pancake was not too sweet, an excellent companion to the daikon pancake.
Would definitely come back again!
EDIT: Went back again and got their fried onion pancake with eggs. Hands down, the best Dan-bin I've had so far. The pancake is crispy golden brown, crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside. They certainly don't spare on green onion stuffing either! The best part was the perfectly fried egg, the egg white was nice and crispy without the yoke being overly cooked. It...
