If you are a pork lover, this is not to be missed. Their star dish is braised pork thigh and it is the absolute best in flavor. I have been coming here for years and the quality has never wavered. You can choose fatty, less fat or no fat. Of course the fatty part is the absolute best but there’s always the guilt in eating fat😝.
This braised pork thigh is usually served as a rice topping but for those on a no rice diet, you can order it without rice. The natural add on to this would be the hard boiled egg braised in the pork sauce.
Tonight, I passed by and saw a very short line so I stopped by, double parking and intending to just order take out. But their very alert staff quickly shooed me away and pointed me to a just vacated spot with a yellow line (which means I can stop for a while, emergency lights on). Parking is so difficult here and she said police patrols are so active these days. Having secured my parking, I decided to dine in.
Be sure to get a number first before anything else. You don’t get to be seated till your number is called, whereupon you order and be pointed to where you can sit. There is inside seating (air conditioned) and outside seating with very uncomfortable industrial fans blowing every which way.
Apart from the braised pork, there are a lot of other dishes like fried fish belly, fish and pork innards sautéed with your choice of vegetables, various vegetables sauté ( I love their A vegetable and it goes well with the braised pork), oyster omelet, fish kidney, pork kidneys. Check out what’s in their chiller display. All of those can be made into soup, fried or sautéed. Typical Taiwanese home cooking.
Tonight I came solo and ordered braised no fat pork on rice with egg and sautéed sponge gourd - Nt$115! Very reasonable all cooked to order but amazingly quick too. The kitchen is there right outside and the cook moves so fast, you can’t believe how quickly she can produce your order.
No alcohol is served on the premises but a tea bar is right at the entrance, convenient for those waiting in line. Not to worry unless the line is really long because it all goes very fast.
They are only open Mondays to Saturdays...
Read moreSaw a lot of people, checked google reviews, and decided to order to go. Braised fatty pork over rice: it came with 3 separate pieces, skin and 2 pieces of lean meat. This is rare to have the them separately. The skin part tasted very good, juicy, tender and fatty. The meat was super dry and you could tell it was left over from the day before. Unfortunately one piece probably wasn’t refrigerated properly and it was bad with bit of sourness. Pan-fried milkfish belly: it was cooked/prepared just right, but.. the fish has no flavor and was very bland. Possible reason could be that it wasn’t fresh.. still able to eat it with pepper salt provided on the side. sigh Fried chicken testicles: over-fried, burned smell & taste, inedible.. I think this restaurant can definitely provide consistent quality food, if they have standards set properly. Maybe my order was to-go order and I am not from locally, so they didn’t care what quality of food they gave me? It’s true that most people wouldn’t go back and return/complain about the food once left. There is no listed pricing for any. The total for three items was 560. While waiting, I noticed most customers are from the local...
Read moreGreat food speedily served. My lawyer treated me here twice late night, like 10 pm, always very crowded filled with locals. You have to know what you want to try, no menu, you walk up to the raw food display and order. So you need someone who speaks Mandarin, preferably Taiwanese, who knows what to order. Quite an experience. There is a beverage station out front, very unique milk tea, I tried their goat milk red tea, sounded bad to me but she said it's very good. Very good indeed, my first time...
