This is one of the most favorable restaurants that my family members love to dine, whether it's in Taiwan or in the US or even in Tokyo. I and the rest of the extended family members counted would frquent there almost once a week. Last night, March 24, my wife and I went a bit late cus we had some errands to take care of in the late afternoon. We were seated in close to nine at night. We each ordered our separate dishes and two appetizers - one was my most favor, the 小菜, and the other one was 乾扁四季豆. We only shared the appetizers, one of them, the one with thin sliced seaweeds, toufu, etc. - 小菜, tasted a bit off. I told my wife that that dish didn't taste as usual. But, we cleaned out the tidbit dish of 小菜 anyway. After dinner, we walked around the same basement floor browing and bought half loaf of bread from one of the bakeries. Then, all of a sudden, my stomach started to churn badly. I knew instantly what was happening - I ate something bad. I rushed to the restroom, and I was having bad diarrhea, unfortunately. My stomach is very sensitive to food, if it is bad or spoiled. My stomach would always react within half an hour so, sometimes even faster. We went home soon after. My body made me to clean out again before bedtime. We went through what had ordered. We didn't share any of our orders. We only shared the 小菜. I said hopefully it was only my orders had spoiled ingredients in it, but I still thought it was the 小菜 because my taste buds told me something not right. Early in the morning, it was my wife's turn to have diarrhea. Too bad, a good meal spoiled a...
Read moreDin Tai Fung, a household name, is a chain restaurant in Taiwan that focuses on noodle dishes. It was opened on Xinyi Road in Taipei City in 1958. It also sold Xiaolongbao in the 1970s, and has since flourished.
In 1996, Din Tai Fung expanded the Japanese market and quickly set off a craze for xiao long bao in Japan. Since then, it has been widely praised and was recommended by the New York Times as one of the "Top Ten Gourmet Restaurants in the World". In 2010, Din Tai Fung's Hong Kong store received one Michelin star. In total, Din Tai Fung has won six Michelin stars in 2017!
When visiting the Kaohsiung Arena Shopping Plaza, you can see the master making Xiaolongbao as long as you pass the entrance of Ding Tai Fung, which is another successful selling point.
Another key to success for Din Tai Fung is "service." From drawing number plates, waiters taking seats, ordering, dining, and leaving, you can feel the professionalism and kindness of the service staff. Such as the introduction when ordering, the greeting when serving, the closing of the order, or the constant attention to whether the customer's tea is supplemented, all the small details are respected by the customer, making you feel at home. You can come again when you are free to verify this...
Read moreWell i got a chance finally to dine at a Din Tai Fung in Taiwan. It was exceptionally good. I had to wait for nearly 60 minutes to be seated. Surprisingly it's the only branch in Kaohsiung and hence it's always packed. The staff were very welcoming and spoke to me in English all throughout. I ordered the prawn cake, pork chop with egg fried rice, spicy cucumber salad and pork and prawn dumpling with in house special sauce. All the food ordered was top quality. Cucumber salad has been a little overhyped by the tiktokers, it's just ok. Also the service was fast. They have mastered the preparation of their fried rice 😍. You need to order it on a app on your phone. I didn't order the Xiaong Long Baos as I have already had it in the past at the DTF branches in Manila, Dubai and Singapore. In Taiwan for some reason they don't give you the spicy chill oil / sauce. But nevertheless a great experience and kudos to DTF for managing the crowd and keeping up the food quality to such high standards in all their branches worldwide. My bill was around 1025 ntd for all the...
