Unlike in most places where stinky tofu is only served fried, there are more variations here! The pungency of the stinky tofu is not as apparent here, making it easier for even kids to accept and savour this dish. As a control sample, we got the fried tofu and as my travel companion commented, could be the best he had in Taiwan! The accompanying pickled cabbage is a nice touch to cut through the fried stinky tofu taste. The fried stinky tofu also has some grated garlic and sauce served together which elevated the flavour and experience. We also got the steamed tofu which is really good but needs a bit of waiting since they are steamed and served in batches. The tofu is served with a light yet savoury and meaty broth with a handful of enoki mushrooms and a sprinkling of minced meat. Yesterday, while leaving the parking lot, I saw one of the cooks drop two small pieces of tofu onto the street. Rather than throw them out, she washed them under the faucet and put them back in the tray. This was in front of a crowded line of customers.
With this kind of attitude towards sanitation, out in the open, I shudder to imagine what goes on behind the scenes.
