Brilliant Japanese BBQ Restaurant. Kanpai (乾杯) means "Cheers/Skull", and true to the name, they encourage everyone to skull their drink (responsibly). The review below is a bit long, but it'll truly explain to you why these guys are worth their 5 stars, and visiting.
My experience. I went there with a group of four. We were initially served by 紅茶 (Black Tea) and Jper (Jupiter). I preface, all staff here were bubbly and outgoing and trendy, and know how to make all guests feel welcome and comfortable. Jper had the best (and the worst) jokes, but really just brings you into the environment.
HOST: 紅茶 (Red Tea) was our host for the night, as in for the whole restaurant (see GanBei below). Red Tea was the best host at any restaurant I've ever been to. She's got a job to do, she needs you engaged, but she is so casual, and adaptive, she can bring everyone into the fold (one lady was extremely shy, and Red Tea just talked her confidence right up there).
(GanBei): Okay. So it's 8.00pm and it's time to skull your drink. But instead of just directing you to skull, they ask each table for a little something to celebrate, and they introduce that person to the whole restaurant. The Host makes an introduction, and because they are asking you to skull and you can't enjoy your drink, they offer everyone a complimentary top-up (they give you a free beer or whatever you're drinking at the time).
The Kissing Game: After the GanBei Event, if you kiss someone (ie. Girl:Boy, Boy:Boy or Girl:Girl), the restaurant will give you a free tray of beef! Be warned. They will take a picture, and may place it on the wall of their restaurant.
ENGLISH: All staff speak English. Initially, they heard me and my friends speaking English, so they made a seriously sincere effort to speak English with me, and their English was quite good.
FOOD: Okay, finally the food. It was good, very good. Great cuts of meat. If you're not familiar with this style of BBQ, you can ask any of the staff to help you. Ru actually stayed with us for like 10 minutes, and cracking wise after she saw our table had burnt some of our pork.
Normally you would comment on the food of a restaurant first. But what you're coming to this restaurant for is the experience. If you're in the area (and I mean Taipei), you MUST visit this place. I hope you...
