We went out of our way and walked 40 minutes to this shop because I too, love butter. I didn't really know what to expect, just that it had a cool tailor shop as its front display. When we got there, indeed the decor was very chic and unique. However, I regret to say that is probably the best part of this place. Once we got inside, we were offered a sample with tea. The sample of the day was the "Hug me" which is the cheese, honey, and sea salt butter cookie. It was a very soft cookie with an almost cake-like middle. I personally expect crunch when I hear the word "cookie" but my husband liked it. I asked if we could sample something else as I wanted to buy some gifts for my friends back in the US. However, they only have one type of sample for each day with no option to even buy other flavors to try. You are only allowed to buy the cookies in boxes of 6 or 10...As you can imagine, this makes it very tough to decide which flavors to buy because you don't even know how they taste! I remarked that I did not like the sample as I felt the "cookie" was way too soft, it was almost like a cake. The sales associate told me that was the softest of all the cookies and that the pineapple cookie that I was interested in is more "crunchy." Well, I ended up buying 5 boxes of these and they were not cheap! (about $75 USD total). I tried the original butter and pineapple cookies when I got home, and I feel that they're all very crumbly and too soft - almost like cakes. I also don't really taste a strong butter flavor, which I can usually easily detect in butter-heavy goods. These cookies were a disappointment especially considering the price and all the effort I went through to obtain them and lug them to the US. I will still gift them to my friends, but I'm not particularly in love with these cookies. If I had known, I would not have gotten this many boxes. I will not be returning to this place...
Read moreSince 2018, this has been one of my favourite pineapple cakes to buy for friends overseas. Almost everyone I gift this to has had nothing but rave reviews and always pester me to buy more next time. As with most fresh pastries, the expiry date is pretty short, so I would recommend buying right before you plan to gift them. Sometimes I use the short expiry as an excuse to have more of them for myself. A big whoopsies on my end, can’t help it I guess, it expires so soon so why waste them if they can happily go into my own stomach? Sorry friends.
These pastries are definitely on the pricier side as evidenced by the store’s $$$ sign, but the quality and taste of fresh buttery goodness that explodes onto your palate really is unrivalled. You can also choose to enjoy a few samples in store with some tea if you feel uncertain about making a big purchase. After one bite, you will probably end up walking the path of no return. Goodbye cheap taste buds.
In my honest opinion, it is WAY better than ChiaTe (the largest pineapple cake brand in Taiwan) and offers a different taste compared to Sunny Hills (which is equally as good but offers a slightly different taste and texture).
If you like a more organic, stringy, and slightly sour taste/texture then go with Sunny Hills. But if you want to have a sweeter and more rich and high tea pastry like delight, then you can do no wrong by going with but. we love butter.
An added bonus is the chic and Kingsman (film) like interior decor that makes you feel like you’re visiting a movie set and not a...
Read moreSuper neat place that sells wedding quality gift sets for cookies. But, definitely worth a visit because you can buy coffee and the individual cheese cookie cakes (or pineapple) in the cafe.
The most interesting thing is that you enter the cafe through a fake men's clothing shop and have to make your way through a secret entrance to enter the cafe.
If you're in the market for high end cookie gift sets from Taiwan, set up an appointment with the shop so you can do a cookie tasting. Yeah, forget wine tastings, life is now about cookie tastings.
Absolutely...
