Meowvelous Inc. — Restaurant in Songshan District

WILL NOT VISIT AGAIN !

My friend told me that it's a very famous restaurant in Taipei so we went to try it out. We have ordered a couple of starters and '' half chicken in Taiwanese Style ' ' as main course. Part of the chicken was still uncooked when we tried to cut if off. We have asked the person in charge of the restaurant but she only took a quick look and said that it's normal as the chicken is slow cooked. I have never eaten a slow cooked chicken that is still full of blood inside. I did request to get her to ask the chef if this piece of chicken is cooked. After a while she came back to our table and insist that there is no problem with the chicken but she said she would not charge us for the chicken if we are not happy to eat it.She would take the rest of the chicken away from us but she ended not walking away within out remove the chicken. I confirmed with her that we would accept her offer not to be charged for this item from our bill. While we are having our other dishes that we have ordered and we have not even had our dessert the same staff placed the bill covered up at one of our table corner of our table and walked away without saying anything. We did not request for the bill. When I looked at the bill and we got charged for the chicken so I went up to the cashier and spoken to the same staff again why the chicken dish is on the bill. She told me that because only one piece of the chicken which we are not happy with so she can not waive it for us but then she said she would make an exceptional case this time and we shall not order it next time ! I really do not know why the entire conversation with her she only spoke in mandarin while I spoke to her in English. I have been told the staff are all required to be fluent in English and I can only listen to basic mandarin only.

The best part is that they said that they are paying 70% effort and will therefore charge 7% service charge on the bill !

Being a frequent business traveller in Europe, I would say this restaurant is below the standard on their food and service.

Well, in general food is okay but haven't tried anything what is worth to come back (had a group of 7 so ordered many positions from the menu). 90 minutes limit to eat is ridiculous, especially for late dinner and they're letting you in only when your table is ready (but timer starts from your reservation time), instead of letting us know that we could stay longer if there is noone after us (and that's how it was as a result) - staff highligthed several times about 1.5 hours limit. Chairs/benches are too uncomfortable (maybe one more thing to force you not to sit in more than 90 minutes). All the dishes are overpriced (quality/taste is not compared to price, obviously...), drinks are advised to check from the fridge, but space in front of the fridges is on the way of waiters serving food so you need constantly to step back and forth. As was said earlier, food is okay (nothing wow, some dishes are below average, don't recommend seafood here for sure). As for the service - was enjoying my beer when one of the waiters decided to pour water to my glass with beer (aren't you supposed to ask first about water...), waiters were constantly stepping on our feet or spilling water. Design: has too many extra stuff around, like they were trying to occupy as much place as possible instead of having one main concept or style. Oh, one more thing - chipped glasses - not cool. We were there celebrating our 9th anniversary yesterday and it was a wonderful night!

Although there were some reviews sharing their unpleasant experiences over there, none of those happened to us. My reservation was 6:30pm and we arrived 5-10 mins earlier. We were seated immediately right after the lady found my reservation. According to thier policy, our dinning time should be over at 8pm, however, we were never asked to leave by our server during our meal, even we finally left around 8:15pm.

As for the food, the fries was fantastic and I wished I could eat more!! Cold Beef Plate was the dish of our memory since we had it last time before Meowvelous moved to the current location, but they seemed to change the dish a bit. To be honest, I prefer the way it was before. The honey toast with butter and caviar was incredibly good. Make sure get yourself one if you are looking for snacks. They are good at making cocktails as far as I know. And they didn't let us down at all.

The server was friendly and kind. Instead of pushing me to order as much as possible, she suggested us to decide whether to order more after finishing what we already had ordered. Also, she gave me good recommendation to my last cocktail based on the flavor I like.
