老外咖啡 Gene's Coffee — Restaurant in Taichung

This place is a standout GEM — you won't regret stopping in when passing through Taichung Train Station! I was just looking for an air-conditioned spot to pass an hour before my train, but did NOT expect to have one of the BEST coffee experiences I've had in Taiwan. Incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and delicious. Their Sicily coffee (sparkling + lemon + espresso) won over my Silicy-coffee-skepticism — they press their own lemon juice and add some mint to take "refreshing" to another level! Details like this really let you know how seriously they take their drinks here. Don't let the unassuming exterior fool you; this is no ordinary coffee stop! They also highly recommended their Breve, which blew my mind — creamy and musky-deep, with just the right amount of sweetness despite NO sugar added because the milk/cream and espresso are that perfectly balanced. The service was also impeccable — they took such good care of me, providing ice in a nice dish when I asked for some to cool down, lowering the window shade so there wouldn't be too much glare on my laptop, etc. All my questions were answered with not just patience but enthusiasm and thoughtfulness -- it's evident that here, food and drink are a labor of love, a craft filled with constant learning and delight. I got to chat briefly with the owner Gene himself as well, who was very kind. All in all, a truly wonderful experience that I will surely be back for, next time I pass...

I spent 3.5 days in Taichung and this one coffee shop I found on google map is by far one of the best among places I’ve tried. I came from Vietnam, a country that’s already famous for good coffee. Didnt expect much from Taiwanese coffee but this place was similar to what i used to have at home 😂 We came here twice. It was located at Taichung station, 2nd floor! We struggled with finding the shop at first because google didnt tell us that it was on 2nd floor. Staff were friendly. The bartender even came to ask if our coffee was okay 👍 i guess he is the man on the logo of this...

My worst morning ever! I waited for over 30 minutes for just one order ( coffee latte).

I came from a bad mood morning coz I need to wait for my friend for an hour. So I decided to stay here- drink coffee and feel relax. I thought I could relief my frustration here but I ended up getting more frustrated for waiting my latte for over 30 minutes. I'm not sure if they gave my order to the guy next to me. At the end they gave me the coffee with pineapple cake to compensate my inconvenience but I don't think that would make me feel better after I waited...
