One of the previous comments here said that the place is snobby and overpriced. I completely agree. In fact one of friends flatly refused to patronize this place because of the quality and steep prices. My personal experience is that the food is not cheap. The wanton noodles is definitely not the standard type of Cantonese egg noodles you get in Hong Kong. I don’t know where they got the noodles from probably some sort of Taiwanese variant. The dried wanton noodles has no condiments inside, probably just a dash of soya sauce and some lard oil. The porridge on the other hand is this thick goo that clogs in your mouth. Totally disgusting. The guy said he cooked it for 4 hours but I think he should have added some broth or at least water during cooking. Spoilt my appetite for the entire afternoon. The reason why two stars for food is because there is still some flavour in it and I can taste definite anchovies in my mouth when the menu says it is anchovies porridge. But the texture is totally something else. Lousy service because when I told them the problem, I got a cold answer back in my face. The guy says he’s been doing this for a long time already. There’s no willingness to resolve a problem. Overall, not a good place to lunch in. Nothing even an average rating in general because the high prices took this away. This means if u just need to have a simple meal to take care of lunch, this place is below what the market can offer...
Read moreNot what it used to be. My family is a frequent patron of this restaurant since their original location on Ren Ai Road, I went with them all the time when I was a kid. Now I return as an adult after living overseas, I find they nickle and dime you. Got charged for an extra dish for wanting to add some chopped scallions and ginger for extra flavor on my noodles. They push “freshly baked” dim sum to every customer, ironically, it took them over 20 mins to serve a simple BBQ pork pastry. I had to walk up to the counter to ask twice for it. And I went right when they opened at 11 am. Were they not ready for business? Or “freshly baked” is merely a sham? They also want you to self serve water and condiments, without telling you where they are. I ate my noodles all dry and plain without condiments or a drink of water. It was until I was paying for my meal, I saw they were at a hidden corner in the restaurant. Oh, they’re also cash only. Makes not much sense for a restaurant located in downtown. Don’t bother eating there, they don’t want your business anyway. Snobby and overpriced, doesn’t justify...
Read moreUsed to eat this place as a child, partners sometimes brought me to this place after school for a quick snack, I vividly remember this place used to be located on Renii road.
Best Guangdong congee in Taipei and the flavor did not change much after nearly 30 years, very impressive, the base of the congee is made of rice cooked in pork bones soup to a point where all the rice grain is blended and melted to form a milky white, gooey porridge. The congee base was already delicious, added crispy Chinese doughnut, protein, egg and some spring onion, one hearty and warming meal or snack for everyone.
A great place for meal and brought back...
