I finally had dinner at Foldie after having it on my list for a while. We started with the “chicken” wings. The staff told us they would numb our tongues, and I honestly didn’t understand how that was possible, especially since the menu said they were spicy, and in Taiwan, “spicy” rarely lives up to the label. And this is coming from someone who can’t even handle much spice.
Surprisingly, they did numb our tongues. Not sure what kind of sorcery that was. The texture and look were impressively chicken-like, but the flavor was quite bland.
We also had the pesto risotto. The portion was good for one person, but it was more like rice in green pesto sauce; not the creamy risotto texture you’d expect. Still, it was okay.
To finish, we tried the matcha dessert. I often judge a place by its dessert, and I’d give this one a 7 out of 10. It looked nice and had a decent matcha flavor, but the texture was a bit dense and the sweetness wasn’t quite balanced. Enjoyable, but not memorable.
The interior is nicely done, it gives off cozy, laid-back vibes. The staff were great: friendly, attentive, and helpful throughout the night. But overall, while the experience was pleasant, I wouldn’t necessarily...
Read moreI recently dined at this vegetarian restaurant, drawn in by their innovative and visually appealing dishes. The food did not disappoint—it looked amazing and tasted even better. The flavors were exceptional, making it a standout spot for vegetarian cuisine.
However, I was a bit let down by the dining atmosphere and service. The restaurant was much louder than I expected for a place with such a sophisticated concept, which made it difficult to enjoy the meal fully. Additionally, despite there being several empty tables, the staff initially seated us in the middle of a crowded group. When I requested a different table with more space, they declined at first, only agreeing after some persistence. Unfortunately, the new table was right in front of the bathroom, which wasn’t ideal as well.
While the food alone would bring me back, I hope the service and atmosphere improve to match the quality of the dishes. It’s definitely worth a visit for the food, but be prepared for a less-than-perfect...
Read moreI've been a vegetarian my entire life. I ordered three items via UberEats and did not like any of them.
The Tom-Yum cauliflower did not have much tom-yum flavor but it was quite decent in my opinion. It is not suitable for delivery though as the cauliflower becomes soggy. It is recommended to order this only if you're dining in.
The pasta smelled awful and tasted even worse. I understand that they were going for some asian fusion dish, but the flavors did not combine well in my opinion. We decided to leave more than half.
The pesto risotto was okay. The pesto sauce itself was not very flavorful. I've had much better pesto risottos in Taipei.
Literally all their other entrees are based on fake pork which is quite processed and generally polarizing. It seems that this restaurant is not geared towards vegetarians, but rather meat-lovers who are trying to eat more vegetarian meals. If you've never eaten meat like me and do not find "fake meat" appealing then you will not enjoy...
