I was very happy during my first visit in Lay Back, everything was good until today, totally regretful to have visited again. It is today, 8th of January around 12.40pm. I am writing the exact date and time so that you all can trace who is the person in charge on duty today. When I enter, nobody serves us which we can still tolerate and understand, probably short of staff. After a few minutes he finally came and asked us whether or not we have reservation. We said no, he said if no reservation, maybe there’s no seat for us and can’t guarantee that we will have a seat but at that time we saw there’s an empty table but he said it is for reservation. After that I saw a couple went in and they replied no reservation too but he just allowed them to have a seat. Anyways this is not the point, the point is his attitude, the worst service I’ve ever encountered in Taipei after a long trip here. People started to leave and that is why we ask if we could order for takeaway since we have a flight to catch and hence we have ordered. He said have to wait at least 20 minutes but we waited less than that, which was around 10 minutes only. The point is here, we decided to takeaway is because he said he can’t guarantee us a seat but at that time, there were at least 3 empty tables! So I did ask him politely can we have a seat as we would like to just get a quick bite. He looked damn annoyed honestly and replied me saying that, so you want to dine in is it? He had a very annoyed body gesture and left no choice and let us sit. At that point of time I can guarantee no customers can actually tolerate this kind of attitude. We spend considered premium price but we got such service omg. I honestly pity this business owner, by right I had 5 stars experience which I genuinely will recommend my friends which they are frequent travellers here in Taiwan and I even have friends working in Taipei too. Honestly If he discriminates foreigner and don’t wish to serve us he can just be straightforward with us, we are absolutely open minded with it. If your restaurant only open for “reservation customers only” might as well close the door and put a sign there “kindly no walk-in customers”. BTW I’m also a Chinese who can speak mandarin fluently so there is definitely no misunderstandings....
Read morethe Classic Burger is decent: the patty’s got a good crust and has enough flavor to stand on its own. in fact, i think that if you order one of the flavored burgers, especially the truffle one which seems quite popular, then you’re not even really going to be tasting the meat anymore.
the Garlic & Parmesan Fries were pretty disappointing because whatever cheese they’re using is most definitely not really parmesan, so there’s no parmesan aroma or flavor. also, for some reason, they decided to put all the minced garlic down at the bottom, so you can’t even really get to it when you’re eating the fries at the top. ultimately, these fries still desperately needed ketchup, but instead of delivering a ketchup bottle to the table, the server just squeezed a dollop into a small container which wasn’t nearly enough
the main reason for this 2-star review, however, is how badly they screwed up the Wagyu Burger. i chose to have the patty cooked medium, as that was the recommended option, but when i bit into my burger, i found that the inside was all raw. this wasn’t even medium rare—this beef was straight up cooked rare, and given that wagyu is a fattier kind of beef, this patty was straight up nasty because of all the uncooked fat and gristle. whoever cooked this travesty needs to look up images of what an actual medium cooked burger patty looks like because...
Read moreDecent burger place as an alternative to my usual haunt (just two blocks away). Burger is well-priced between $250-300NT, but sadly they removed their regular plain burger from the menu, so you have to get one with their various toppings (which frankly I didn’t want).
I got the peanut butter bacon burger because I REALLY didn’t feel like any of the others. It came with 3-4 slices of reheated bacon, and a peanut butter sauce (not pure peanut butter, because I assume they want to loosen the ooze/viscosity). Overall, it was a good burger, though dude taking my order asked me if medium/medium-rare (5分熟) was okay, and then it came out way more done than that (see photo).
The interior looks comfortable, and they charge a 10% service fee for dine-in. Given a single burger is literally handheld walk-around food, I took mine...
