Wu Lao Guo (Taipei Yongkang Branch) — Restaurant in Taipei

Upscale and cosy environment. Their signature is the tofu hotpot so we went with that. Soup was thick and full of flavour, with (free-flow!) tofu and duck blood. Their specialty is this "ice cream tofu" which was frozen tofu, that when put in the hot soup results in a firm outer layer and a creamy inner. Nice, but not so outstanding enough that we ordered more of it. We added on cabbages, pork shoulder, meatballs, and fried beancurd. All were fresh and quality, although the pork was fattier than we would have liked. Enjoyed the condiment and rice bar too, although if you're familiar with the Chinese-style condiment bar the one here would be lacking (e.g., absence of sesame sauce, chilli oil). Service here is also friendly enough and efficient, but do note they have a semi-strict dining duration policy and will do soft reminders - like serving us the complimentary lime slush while we were still in the middle of our hotpot. Overall, our meal was close to 1500ntd which was a decent price for the meal quality...
