The Thirsty Owl 貓頭鷹咖啡館 — Restaurant in Toucheng Township

Super convenient location just a few steps from Toucheng train station (the entrance is on the side facing the train station rather than the side facing the street). The proprietress is not only super welcoming, but she has even managed to create an actual community around this café/bar, which really makes this place stand out compared to most other faceless establishments in the region. The support staff are also great, too. The food is yummy, there is an extensive drinks menu (both alcohol and other beverages), and all for really reasonable prices. The building itself has a lovely historic-feel with cozy interiors that create a seaside vibe with a local Taiwanese touch (I particularly like the dimmable lights — no harsh office lighting here!). Just a 30 seconds walk from the train station you can walk into Toucheng's ultimate fusion cafe/pub/lounge... I don't even know in which category I can put it. Maybe the owl defines it's own category and that's mainly because of Anje, who runs this place.

Come for afternoon tea, stay for a wine in the early evening, enjoy a beer while listening to some random stranger who just grabbed the guitar and shares some of his favorite songs.

The interior of this traditional Japanese house just sucks you into a cosy atmosphere you don't want to leave anymore.

So is it a cafe? Yes, it is! But is it also a lounge? Oh... definitely! And of course it's also a cute little pub... and one that you can't find anywhere...

Enjoyed the Thirsty Owl so much! It's located conveniently close to Toucheng train station. There's parking next-door, but I don't suggest driving as the wine is fabulous! Had the cab/sav that went perfectly with the generous charcuterie board and the excellent meat pies. We ended up splittling one of each pie they were so good! It's so relaxing here, comfy seating and very cool decor, that you could easily spend all day or night here. The owner, Anje, really took such nice care of us!
