Last night our large family (14 people) had dinner at TR in their private room. My first time there, and I was really looking forward to the meal after checking the menu on their website. I liked the modern decoration and the overall design of the restaurant but was not impressed with the quality of the food. The presentation was pretty, but most dishes were bland.
Bread basket: by the name, I was expecting a basket with a variety of breads to choose from, but, that wasn’t the case. We all got two pieces of the same bread with a butter spread.
Parma prosciutto con melon: decent - the dressing complemented well with the .
Popcorn chowder: my favorite dish of the evening! It was very flavorful, and the popcorn and sliced mini corns added a tasty texture to the creamy chowder.
Slow cooked abalone: beautiful presentation, but the abalone was bland and hard. Do not order this dish.
Scallops: soft, but a bit undercooked. The creamy potatoes complemented well.
Steamed red grouper: my mom ordered this dish – it was a generous portion but bland.
Wagyu M7: the main dish I was waiting to savor was pretty raw. I dipped it in the pepper sauce, but it was too overbearing. I can’t decide what was worst: the flavorless raw wagyu or the pungent peppery gravy. I ate 1/2 of the 4 oz wagyu; couldn’t force myself to eat the rest.
Daily dessert: turned out to be a slice of glazed pound cake with a strange flavor. I ate only two small bites.
Every dish was served all together to everyone in a timely manner except the main entrée. There was a gap of 6 – 10 minutes between each entrée. First came the pork, then the ribeye, later the grouper, and finally the wagyu. It seemed as if there was only one chef, and s/he was preparing one type of main dish one at a time. Since the four wagyu orders came last, I wonder if the reason it was so undercooked is because the chef was running out of time with the 20-25 minute gap between the first and last entrees. The timing was really off on the main dishes.
Service was good; the staff was attentive, but the gastronomic experience was disappointing, not worth...
Read moreThis was an overall very disappointing experience. My wife and I went for the Valentine’s Day set menu. If you’re paying 9,000twd for a meal you’d expect it to be amazing. It was average at best. Good quality, but the flavors were off. When we arrived it took 20 minutes for the really small salad to arrive. It was possibly the smallest salad I’ve ever seen. The flavors were not great. Ok, strike one I said let’s give them more time to improve. Waiting another 20 minutes I asked when our next plate was coming, he brought out a shrimp and abalone because we were waiting so long, even though it wasn’t on the menu (which is why they got a 2 star instead of 1). Then they brought out what they called a Boston lobster, which was a lie because it was the size of a large shrimp. It tasted good but the menu was deceiving. The next was what they called onion soup. It really wasn’t soup it was more like sautéed onions in a bowl. It tasted like they poured too much sugar. It was super sweet and I really only finished it because I was really hungry. The final dish was the reason we came which was the beef Wellington. The presentation was beautiful and the steak was prepared well. But inside was mixed with truffle and duck liver (both things were not listed on the English menu and I don’t like either of those things). There was so much truffle and duck liver that when the Wellington was cut, everything just fell apart. It was off putting and didn’t taste good. The dessert was also very nice looking but the tart filling was so overly sweet I couldn’t believe they were serving this in Taiwan. I am American and I love sweet things, but I know Taiwanese people can’t handle anything too sweet. The couple sitting next to me took one bite and didn’t even finish. Everyone that had the Valentine’s Day menu looked disappointed. Most people didn’t finish the food on their plates. Very shocking for something so expensive. I wouldn’t recommend and will never consider going back here.
Review was changed from 2 stars to 1 star because after 2 weeks, no one from the restaurant...
Read moreA hotel with lots of stories. If you look closely, you can see the beauty within the details. From brick factory, dragon boat festival on the jilong river, to the cute ducklings and butterfly garden, Hotel Indigo Taipei North really incorporated Dazhi’s local stories into their design. It’s wonderful and refreshing to see a hotel with in-depth neighborhood stories!
On the other hand, TR Bar & Kitchen always goes above and beyond the standards. The cp value is quite high, since most hotel’s food is almost like dining at an airport haha, TR Bar & Kitchen brings its customers the fine dining experience while the price is quite affordable!...
