If I had to sum this place up with one phrase, it would be: I can't, because this place is so good. The small space does not leave extra room to accommodate large amounts of people, so PLEASE CALL AND RESERVE!!! Portions are big, we made the mistake of ordering 5 dishes for 2 people, thinking that this would just be a run of the mill Thai restaurant, boy were we WRONG, we had to pack some stuff back home. The flavour is authentically Thai, probably as authentic as it can be considering some of the key ingredients can be a pain in the butt to source outside of Thailand. But nonetheless I think I found a Thai place I can come to whenever I'm missing Thailand.
蝦醬空心菜(Morning glory stirred fried with shrimp paste) - The distinct smell of shrimp paste with the crunchy morning glory is the perfect match with the aromatic jasmine rice.
綠咖喱雞(Chicken green curry) - Green curry isn't a hard dish to nail, but what sets this one apart from the other ones, is the Thai eggplant they put in the curry, this makes the dish 10 times more authentic.
打拋豬(Pork Dapao) - This one is just so good, if you feel like you've met your starch intake for the day, opt it out for the cabbage that they put next to the dish, wrap the dapao up and go crazy. But trust me, not having rice with this dish is a sin.
涼拌青木瓜(Green Papaya Salad) - Perfectly crunchy strings of green papaya tossed in a really well flavoured sauce, this can't be beat. Perfect for a hot summer's day.
月亮蝦餅(Fried Shrimp Cake) - This dish is really where it's at. I didn't take any photos of this because I was stunned by how huge the whole thing is (there are photos of it somewhere here). The shrimp cake is a good three maybe four centimeters thick, made and fried upon ordering so it is hot and tasty. DELICIOUS.
Drinks - We had the Thai milk tea and Mango juice. The Thai milk tea tastes really good, although it's lacking the bright orange hue, but can't sat that there's anything different with what I used to have in Thailand. The mango juice is canned mango juice, still good and refreshing. AND SIGNAL BOOST they give people PAPER STRAWS!!!! We love an environmentally friendly restaurant.
Overall, I enjoyed this culinary experience all the way. I will be going back some time soon, with a bigger appetite and more friends to share this good food with.
Props to the chefs and waitress, they...
Read moreIt was ok. Half of the dishes we ordered were excellent and the other half had a distinctive Taiwanese taste, which was distracting (personal opinion: I don't think the two cuisines go well together). 月亮蝦餅: thick with whole shrimps. This dish was invented in Taiwan and this restaurant prepared it well. Chicken krapow (打拋): Very Taiwanese tasting. Had green beans, which was strange, and one spice/herb in the mix was definitely a feature of Taiwan cuisine. Fried catfish: excellent fish and sauce, no notes, enjoyable. Green Curry: Also had an extremely Taiwanese taste. Also had green beans. No fish sauce flavour, very little paste flavour, it just tasted like Taiwan which was really weird and made this dish not enjoyable for me. If you want to visit this restaurant, I recommend a reservation. We (party of 2) did not have one at ~17:40 on a weekday and were told we could eat until 19:00. At almost 19:00 we were politely ejected (really, no complaints on service) from the restaurant and on our way out, we encountered an army of people descending on what I can assume was this restaurant. Summary: for me, not worth the hype. I would not go out of my way to eat the dishes I liked and having a Taiwan flavour that is that obvious was unpleasant for me. CP value, if that's a concern, I would also count as just ok. For overall taste, CP, and convenience, there's better out there. Try the alleys behind MRT...
Read moreGood food that is nice and oily with strong Thai spices. Great to wash it down with some Thai beer. Taiwanese people love the shrimp Moon cake, which is fried shrimp in a very thick patty. Personally, I think it's a little bit mushy and a bit much. The basil pork was pretty good though, especially with the lettuce wrap, The pepper chicken came slightly cold for some reason but it was heavily seasoned with garlic which is never a bad thing, We got string beans with shrimp sauce as well. I think maybe shrimp sauce goes better with leaf veggies. Credit cards not accepted. Reservations seems be necessary unless you are lucky like me and went in on a rainy day. Would visit again with a larger...
