The food at Salt is excellent and it tastes brilliant. This review is more about Salt's service. A lot of people who are local such as myself have noted that Salt has a reputation for treating local Tanzanian clients badly. I had been here a few years ago and the service was terrible while we watched other people being treated well. My husband and I decided to give Salt one more try this weekend and we were pleasantly surprised as the service seem to have improved a little bit. We went for breakfast, we had omelettes, pancakes, hot chocolate and drinks. Their food is absolutely excellent but I hope the service can continue to be improved and I hope Tanzanian customers will be welcomed nicely just like everyone else. Might give Salt another chance again.

Have been several times here. First don't miss reading all the signs on the walls... Chocolate shrinks the trousers... Just fun! Service is polite but honestly like most places in DAR training would make the difference. If you are a fan of pancakes GO.. I am not but still the calamari with bacon nice would have been great if better cooked; to hot panfried so bacon well but the calamari undercooked. Fries tasted a bit of old oil. Breakfast is great had the Yoga plate, fruits with yogurt and muesli not bad. Coffee is really good... Excellent cappuccino! Well visited and clean with an open kitchen. Nice terrace. Will go again cause it's an enjoyable place to go... But has potential of being much better in my opinion. No WiFi ... !!

UPDATE: Almost 2 years later this place has really gone downhill. At first I was surprised that it wasn’t as packed as I had remembered. The service is pretty slow and the servers look like they don’t want to be there. The food was alright, but my sister and I did get food poisoning after. Unsure what caused it but the tomatoes and baked beans were not fresh. We also had coffee, that was probably the worst coffee I have ever had. The iced latte tasted like sour milk, and crushed ice. That recipe definitely needs to be revisited. There was also no WiFi which was surprising for an establishment like that. On the plus side, the iced tea and juices were well made. I hope it can go back to the caliber it used to be.

Some of the good experiences I had from the restaurant, such as good ambiance and okay food are less appreciated due to the lack of customer service. If you have so much time and patience to wait for the bill, go there. Also if you are willing to accept the manager's arrogant attitude while explaining to you the reason why the waiter gave you the wrong food, still go there. But if you expect a better service in the future, don't go there. I've experienced bad attitudes from the waitress before (unfortunately, this time again) and visited there again hoping that there had been some improvements, nothing changed and now even worse. They say the specific food I was there for was available so I sit down and order drinks first and the waitress comes and says they don't have it only 15 minutes later. Which can always happen and understandable but why 15 mins later...the waitress ended up still putting that missing food in my bill. I asked her to give me another bill, she forgets and doesn't give me the bill for 20 mins, I ended up asking other one for the bill. What the.. Some of the menus and prices written are not clear so you order something and they charge you more without apology, which ended up in the argument with the manager. I ordered Soup or the day which is tzs15,000, the waiter says the soup of the day is Tomato soup. Later on the bill they charge 18,000 and I check the menu to see if soup of the day was 18,000 only to find the price of the tomato soup was 18,000. Whatever the reason or the price of the other soup is, I wanted any soup of the day, which costs 15,000, not more, whether the tomato soup was more expensive or not. Isn't what I should be paying is 15,000? Am I wrong? There are plenty of rooms for customers to misunderstand, right? I talk to the manager saying the price is wrong and she said since I ate it I need to pay. She also stated is that the waiter is SWAHILI speaker so had problem explaining what I ate is not what I was supposed to eat. How could this be an excuse? If that's the reason, let the customers know that Swahili is preferred or English could be a problem so customers find a way for waiters to take the order at the first sight. Or at least don't pretend like English is comfortable so the customers don't get the wrong idea that English is well accepted. Also, the manager said that she has problem communicating with the waiters, which is not what I wanted to hear and not even related to the complaint. How the manager communicate to the customers needs a lot of improvement or at least the manager needs to think again why the customers have complaints. Good Saturday lunch has very much been annoyed by the Salty services. Never going there again. One star since no option...

Went for breakfast and I was surprised they did not serve coffee as there machine was broken. It would have been nice to have an emergency french press or other method available. The setting is a little crowded inside with the kitchen and serving area extending into the dining area. The decorations were kind of kitschy and tacky, like there should be a "LIVE LAUGH LOVE" sign but I know this is a personal taste thing anyway.

The food was fine but a little simple for the price. The breads were nice and our table had a variety of just toast with spreads as well as breakfast sandwiches and eggs. Service was not great; they did not bring the spreads and were not received until others had finished eating. They also mixed our bill with another table and we did not notice until after we had...
