Zûane — Restaurant in Dar es-Salaam

After reading numerous great reviews claiming this to be the best Italian restaurant (even praised by Italians themselves), we were very intrigued. Unfortunately, we ended up disappointed.

Maybe I’m too spoiled by the amazing restaurants in Moscow, but if a place serves just pizza and pasta, that doesn’t automatically make it an Italian restaurant.

We ordered a Quattro Formaggi pizza and another one with ham and tomatoes. The cheese pizza was completely bland—it had no Gorgonzola, and it seemed like it was just mozzarella with maybe a tiny bit of Parmesan. For some reason, they even added a tomato. The ham pizza tasted exactly like the Quattro Formaggi, except it had bacon instead of ham.

We only finished everything because we were really hungry. I gave my feedback to the restaurant manager, but instead of listening, he just argued with me and tried to prove me wrong. I felt foolish—I wasn’t even asking for anything in return, and he didn’t even taste the pizza we had, yet he still insisted on debating with me. A little more empathy towards your guests would be appreciated.

Had lunch there today. It was tragic. They open at 12, I arrive at 12 sharp. Only guest in the restaurant. I order pizza 4 formaggi and tagliatelle bolognese. I ask for extra mushrooms on the pizza. The pizza they bring is not 4 formaggi at all. The pasta is bland. Overcooked. Far from al dente. But the real tragedy is that, after a VERY long wait... They brought both things at the same time!!! The pasta was clearly under 'Primi Piatti' so I was expecting it first, but either way; how can you think it's acceptable to serve the customer both dishes at the same time...! How the waitress, waiter and chef could not realise it was a ridiculous amount of warm food and that something would get cold? I ended up eating the pizza really fast and not enjoying any of it. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Masaki area. The food is nice, especially pizzas. But I need to point out the problem of some staffs. They didn’t get back my receipt and change before I asked them at times. The change is not theirs before I give them but they just took it as a tip by themselves. ;) I had the same unpleasant experience several times and I claimed it to the manager but he seems to think it’s not a big deal. And sometimes my bill was overcharged. I just thought it was mistakes at first but everytime I drank a lot with bottles of house wine, I found my bill was not exact.
