We stayed in a fairly fancy room with its own deck above the kite surfing shop- fantastic view of the expansive white sand beach at Paje. It’s a metal spiral stair case to access the room so it’s not accessible for those with mobility concerns. The room is well appointed, beautiful bed, with bathroom behind it including a shower. There are two bunk beds behind the main bedroom/ living room/ kitchen (fridge and sink only) front area. The set up is good for a family. The breakfast service was a little ‘hit or miss’- we’d asked for the option to have it delivered to the private covered deck area for the duration of our stay but several times staff forgot about us. It was poor communication between staff shifts I think. When the food did arrive as requested it is was amazing! In fact, the mr Kahawa cafe next door (literally 10 meters away) has great food, amazing fresh smoothies ) and fantastic coffee drinks. The views from the room’s deck are amazing and the daily kite surfing provides full entertainment in the afternoons when the winds pick up. It was rainy season so it rained a fair bit- there was a portion of the deck that was covered but because vines had grown underneath the corrugated plastic roof it allowed the rain to come into the covered area defeating the whole purpose and resulting in soggy cushions. Attention to details like this and the standing breakfast order seemed lacking. Cleaning staff were attentive and friendly and never missed a day of ordering the room and setting up the mosquito net for the evening. Paje is beautiful and your are literally only steps away from the beach . There is a pool directly behind this room as well . This is a busy kite surfing spot with a younger crowd but the vibe is very chill. Our nights were undisturbed and peaceful. The beach is wonderful to walk along and there are several restaurants nearby as well as a dive shop that organizes excursions. Is busy and you are often approached by those offering various services for hire but they are not terribly aggressive. Most are very ‘hakuna matata’ about life...
Read moreMr. Kahawa is simply one of the greatest places on Earth. I know this sounds like hyperbole, but it's the truth. My wife and I have now stayed there twice, this time for a week for our honeymoon.
Everything about Mr. Kahawa is spectacular. The staff is incredibly friendly and highly competent at everything they do. The ocean lofts are some of the best rooms you can stay in, anywhere, at any cost. They have an incredible combination of being rustic and elegant at the same time. The views and overall sensory experience is unmatched -- you almost never want to leave. The food and drink is terrific as well, notably the included breakfast which is hearty and delicious. Having Kite Centre Zanzibar right there is also a huge plus. Finally, the vibe is always fun and energetic, with perhaps the most international set of guests and visitors I've ever seen.
Mr. Kahawa is so special and wonderful that it's tempting not to write a review so that it stays a bit more quiet and it's possible to get a reservation! That said, the team and experience are so magnificent that they deserve all the the recognition they can get. I can't recommend Mr. Kahawa more highly and can't wait to return for...
Read moreI really have to say that I am very disappointed about our visit in this Restaurant.
I got the wrong dish twice in a row (One was already the exchange court). Of course this can happen but unfortunately, they didn’t really cared. I had to ask several times what went wrong with the order - Their answer was simply “we’re running out of it, we don’t have!” But why didn’t they tell before?
Actually I ordered beef with homemade honey, mustard sauce & beetroot. What I got was any kind of meat, rice, pesto and zucchini.. not a single part of the meal was as ordered. Guess what? I wouldn’t mind if they’ve asked me before but that was quite outrageous.
In exchange they offered me another meal so I ordered Lentil Masala with Chapati bread. What I got was Chickpea Curry, missing bread…
The crowning glory came at the end. The waitress came and ONLY named the price without bringing a bill at all. Skeptically, I also requested the bill, which then took 15 more minutes - how could she name the price and suddenly there was no bill?
Here was one of the dishes listed, I was not ready to pay and still had to explain myself for it. I am really dissatisfied with this visit and really cannot...
