The Distillery Phuket - Home of Chalong Bay — Restaurant in Chalong

After a slow and confusing start, the experience was very fun and offered great food and cocktails.

We prebooked the experience we a set menu. The star seemed confused and offered us a full menu choice before turning our orders down to stick to what we thought we were having. The menu was good though and after that the service was good. The mussaman curry is tasty, not too spicy but they will give you spices if you want to heat it up. You also get a signature cocktail which were really tasty and they don’t hold back on the alcohol.

We were next to a table doing a cocktail making class and they had a spare cocktail left over so the mixologist gave us a full and free cocktail to try too.

The tour started with a further complimentary cocktail and a tour of the facility. It’s short and not a lot to see but equally very informative. I’ve been to similar which “drag on” so it was nice they wanted to concentrate on the tastings.

The tasting was a lot to take on. We tried 6 versions of rum (neat) before having another rum small cocktail then trying two small gin cocktails and a neat vodka. You obviously don’t have to finish it all but even sipping, it’s a lot of take on in quick succession. Some customers felt couldn’t carry on trying. Their flavours are unique but you can taste the intricacies of each one and were all very smooth.

We really enjoyed the experience, left merry and would highly recommended. The grounds are tranquil and peaceful and “instagrammable” and the staff are friendly and very good mixologists. Awesome tasting session - strongly recommend! This is great value for money, and you’ll get tasty drinks, have fun, and learn more about rum too.

We did the distillery tour and tasting session. You get a mojito to start, and it’s pretty good. The tour runs maybe 20 minutes, you’ll learn about rum and get to see a little bit of the processes in operation. It can be a little hard to hear the tour host sometimes, but you can of course ask questions and get clarifications.

The tasting session is generous. You will get to sample the entire line of Chalong Bay, Saneha, and Lanna spirits, with explanations. We got a free mini cocktail in between too. The bartender explaining the spirits was sometimes slightly hard to understand, but again we could ask questions and clarifications.

The team are hospitable and not stingy - we even got a free drink whilst waiting to checkout our purchases before leaving. Speaking of purchases - the bottles sold at the distillery seemed amazingly well priced. Maybe I didn’t look in the right places in duty free at the Phuket Airport, but the bottles sold at the distillery were priced better. And the prices compared to my home market were very very much lower. Recommend stocking up here is you like their spirits!

About Chalong Bay - the spirit of Phuket - it’s close to an Agricole style rum (but low on funkiness) so if you like that this is easy drinking and delicious. If in general you like white rum then this could be a winner for you too.

We didn’t do the cocktail making class - that’s an option and could be fun if you have time for it.

Our visit to The Distillery Phuket was nothing short of amazing! This place is a must-visit if you’re in Phuket, especially for those who love spirits and understanding what you are drinking.

Since we had kids with us, we opted for the distillery tour instead of the cocktail tour. It was a fantastic choice—our children enjoyed delicious virgin mojitos while my partner and I indulged in regular mojitos on top of the tasting session of their awesome range of spirits. The drinks were incredibly refreshing, and the experience was both family-friendly and fun for adults.

A special shoutout to Netty, our guide, who was absolutely phenomenal. She made the tour highly engaging and informative with her detailed explanations. And then there was Nicky, the bartender—his expertise was unmatched! He took the time to understand our preferences and made excellent recommendations. The gin, rum, and vodka here are all exceptional—smooth, unique, and of top-notch quality. Choosing what to bring home was probably the hardest part of the visit (our customs limit didn’t help!).

We also had the pleasure of meeting Air and Fern, who were super friendly and added to the warm atmosphere of the place.

If you’re visiting as a couple and don’t have kids with you, definitely go for the cocktail tour—it promises to be an absolute blast! Overall, The Distillery Phuket is a gem, and we can’t recommend it enough. Thank you for an...
