Loved this scenic restaurant! I was looking for someplace scenic to have a large family dinner and this floated to the top of my research. We'd previously been to the Khaomao-Khaofang several times and it just seems to decline in service quality so I was looking for something different. The restaurant is near CHiang Mai University and so if I had to identify a con the location is a bit hectic to get to as there is a vibrant market you need to pass through to get to it. Near the university and at the foot of the mountain the restaurant is nestled next to a reservoir. They have planted a huge array of flowers and the entire restaurant is on a slope giving it an almost stadium seating type view of the water. The combination of the mountain, water, seating and flowers make this a great location to eat. The scent coming from the flowers was very nice and the food was pretty good. The soy sauce mushrooms seemed to be one of their signature dishes and while they weren't bad I wasn't particularly impressed with them either. The had a pomelo catfish yum that was extremely refreshing and in case you aren't a big fish fan not fishy. Everything is was good and the portions beat Khaomao-Khaofang easily. Service was good even though the place was full. Consider making reservations but they fill up early. Even if they're full they leave some tables for walk-ins so you can still come. If you have to wait take selfies in front of the...
Read moreI have been coming here for many years and usually I am very satisfied, both with the food and the service, but this time the service was terrible, not one of the waiters are qualified for this job. The rice was scraped from the bottom of the pan, burned and rock hard. The fried fish I ordered was totally cold and one dish I ordered didn't even arrive until the rest of the food was consumed, so I cancelled that dish, and then they brought it in... Also I must say that from my 5 original dishes I ordered, they came back to tell me that 3 of them were finished and I had to choose something else from the menu. The dish I ordered for my children without chili came with a lot of chili. They had to feast on dry hard rice and cold fried fish. If I don't get a personal apology from the manager/owner and a complimentary meal for 5, this was the last time I "enjoy" this place. And the compulsory 10% service fee added to the bill sucked big time. Usually when I get this kind of crappy service I leave only a 50 satang...
Read moreFood: 3.5/5.0 (tom yun full of flavor but super spicy...I normally love spicy but this one was really above standard). However, without that extra spice, it would have been a great tom yun.
Service: 1.0/5.0 (waiters are all very young and barely speak English. Had six different waiters attend to us during dinner as they were all unable to communicate. I have nothing against young waiters who do not speak English but Galae caters many foreigners and price points are targeted to this customer segment. Service delivery should therefore be consistent with that. It is the management's responsibility to hire waiters who are able to communicate with guests. Poor waiters, I feel sorry for them). This created multiple confusions during dinner which I don't have the patience to describe here).
Venue: 5.0/5.0 (big outdoor terraces with clean wooden tables overlooking a lake. Lots of beautiful flowers...
