January 15/2023 - decided to go back and very glad we did. We decided to try the set, so had Mediterranean salad, mussels, chicken and vegetable paella. We also added in sangria and creme brulee. All was delicious and perfectly cooked. The paella had the perfect crispy on the bottom but no burnt taste throughout. Mussels were a good size and the sauce was really nice. The owner and staff were great, busy but friendly. Highly recommend that you give this restaurant a try.
November 30/2022 - had a reservation for 5 people. Staff are very friendly and quick to suggest foods and explain the options. We had a Seafood Paella with a salad, no tapas. Paella was quite good. The socarrat was more burnt then crispy so we had an occasional burnt taste throughout but it wasn't inedible. There was a good amount of seafood and vegetables and we were all satisfied with the overall portion. We all had Creme Brulee as well, which was delicious. The Sangria was also tasty. The seating area is fairly small but it is comfortable.
A couple of things of note: when we arrived there was a little dog running in and out of the restaurant and around the tables so if you have allergies, like one member of our party, it could be a concern. We had ordered a pitcher of Sangria which we weren't able to get as they had run out of pitchers but we were able to order by glass. Because the paella is cooked out front, the door needed to be opened frequently and was propped open to bring in the bigger order which meant no AC and quite a few mosquitoes. They did have a couple of fans running but it didn't seem to help much. Unfortunately for us, there was a very loud group of 10 also seated indoors so we could barely hear people talk at our own table... not the restaurants fault and we got even by taking the last of the Creme Brulee ;-)
All in all, I recommend you try it. We plan to go back ourselves as the food was...
Read moreHad the paella and some tapas here, the service was good and the staff and (I think) owners were friendly. Overall I would say that the food is decent and it was a nice experience.
The paella was ok, but I think it was a bit too burned. I know a pealla should have some toasted bits (socarrat) at the bottom but the bottom here was fully black and tasted a bit burned, which I have never experience in a paella before (I'm no expert though, so maybe that's just their style). The tapas taste was fine, but the portions are quite small, even for tapas; the chorizo for example literally had 6 very very thin slices of chorizo. The sangria tasted nice initially, but had a lot of ice and fruit and not much wine so after a few minutes it became quite watery as the ice melted.
If I could I would give 3 1/2 stars, but as it was still a nice experience and it's, as far as I know, the only paella restaurant in CM, so I'm giving 4 stars. Our bill for 2 people came to around 1,200 baht, which feels a bit too expensive for the quality and the portion sizes if comparing to other western style...
Read moreWe went on a Saturday evening. There were three other couples dining and, as recommended,we ordered a seafood paella in advance, to save a 20 minute wait.
The restaurant is not licensed for alcohol sales so we took our own wine and we’re happy to pay the very reasonable THB 150 corkage fee.
Our host, Bob (?) one of the owners, greeted us warmly and explained the menu. In addition to the paella we were served with some very tasty tapas-type starters.
The paella was good and well presented. It was ample to sustain us both and there was more than enough to take a good sized portion home.
As with the starters,a choice of salad and a soft drink are included in the price of the paella. We couldn’t resist sharing a crime brûlée dessert. All of these dishes met with our ample approval as did the service, ambience and comfort of the restaurant.
We enjoyed our meal at the House of Paella and felt it ticked all the boxes;good food, good service, nice service and reasonable price.
Definitely worth...
