Krawan Eastern Thai Cuisine — Restaurant in Chiang Mai Province

At dinner the restaurant was empty. A lot of dishes were sold out… I chose the stir fried crab meat with yellow chilli paste and the rice with seafood mixed, both signature dishes. However, I firstly asked if the first dish was very spicy and the waitress told me it was mild but it could be done without spicy, so I asked for the non spicy version. However, what they served was a VERY spicy dish with all the chillies and multiple crab shell pieces. I could barely enjoy it. The other dish was also disappointing, flavourless with small amount of seafood and large amount of rice. When it was time to pay the waitress didn’t give me the bill, just said the value. The card machine didn’t work, so I had to pay cash. In the end I asked for the receipt and the waitress was surprised and said that she needed to turn on the machines. After 3 minutes without anything I just asked to see the bill and after a while she gave me more money because the value she told me wasn’t correct. After checking the bill, I noticed the crab dish was way more expensive than what I thought and she showed me the menu saying it was correct. The thing is: the same dish appears twice on different pages of the menu under different prices (difference over 100baths). Told her the curry was spicy and she just said she was sorry. My wife & I are ex-pats here & enjoy exploring the many restaurants in CM. However, a recent visit to this restaurant has compelled us to write our first review here. We both agree that this venue will be added to our shortlist of favourite places ( especially in its locale ). The pork dish was 'melt in the mouth tender, & service friendly & prompt. The deserts, Mocktail & Smoothie were all amazing. The ambience is excellent with a Riverside table ( surprisingly free of any mozzie hindrance !? ). Constructively, an improved wine &/or craft ale menu would be an enhancement, in our humble opinion. I had dinner at this place. This is a lovely place to have lunch or dinner as they offer Eastern Thai style food. I have had various Thai food, but food here was different, well-presented, and very delicious. The atmosphere was great (as the restaurant is located next to the Ping River) and the service was excellent. You can sit inside or outside on the terrace. I didn’t like the background music (after the live music session was over) as it was not calming or suitable for such a relaxing atmosphere. This is my opinion only. Parking could be a problem (at the premises), but street parking is available. I would have loved to spend more time here, but my visit was very short as I was on my way to the airport.
