The place has good food at good prices. It’s a cheap canteen style place with a variety of pre made meals. The lady is friendly and speaks some English, but I’m a bit unimpressed that when she’s serving you, if a Thai person comes in she’ll abandon you to serve them first, even is she’s part way through your order.
Warning: the god here is VERY SWEET compared to the original Ming Kwan at Wat Phrah Singh. Especially the curry, dessert and khao soy. I don’t mind things a bit sweet but I’ve had to stop eating some dishes because they contain so much sugar & also more salt. The original branch does not add much sugar etc and has the sugar separate on the table. If you dislike a lot of sugar and salt in your meals, stick to the original branch! Even the plain green beans with grated carrot that I got today was very sweet and my tongue was tingling from the...
Read moreThis is a good option for a more local style vegetarian restaurant. The atmosphere is simple and clean, with few/no tourists. (A few foreigners, but they appear to live in CM )
They have large pans of ore-made dishes, but you can also order ala carte. For the pre-made, you get a nice plate of mixed rice and then choose the number and types of dishes for them to scoop on top. The flavor is not amazing, but it's decent. The veggies are well prepared and ample, so you can get your fill. (You can even add more dishes beyond the 1-3 for about 10 baht per dish.) Drinking water and ice are free. Its a very good, quick veggie option if you're in the CMU area and want to experience a plain and simple local eatery, but don't expect a fancy, exotic experience. I plan to make this a...
Read moreIf you want to eat like royalty on a student budget, this place has you covered. For 45 THB they pile so much rice and curry onto your plate you’ll wonder if they’re secretly running a food relief program.
Now, let’s talk sides. The spring rolls are colder than a Bangkok cinema in July, but at 10 THB a piece it feels unfair to complain. At that price, I’d eat them straight out of a freezer if I had to. It’s a buffet-style setup, which is basically code for “don’t expect fine dining, just expect to leave very full.”
Overall, it is not gourmet dining, but it is cheap, filling and does the job. Bring a big appetite and low expectations for side dishes, and you will...
