Ok so this salon is great for several reasons, very good service, very welcoming kind staff, their English is good, and they take their time with your hair, and products they use a great. BUT I do think that they are overpriced when it comes to the actual hair cutting. My hair is long, hip length, curly (type 2c|3a), and I only had one long layer around my head and some slight layers in the front. My hair felt very heavy and pulled so I wanted some more layers without making the bottom part thin. My super kind and sweet hair stylist Gam, did make the bottom part of my hair lighter layering it, not too thin. I wanted a bit more layers further up around my head ,and in front, but she advised against it as she thought it would thin out the rest of my hair. I didn’t quite understand why. So I left it like that. ( I want to say she took the time to finger twist each and every curl, which I appreciate a lot)When I showered at home and let my hair dry, I felt like my hair was still a bit pulled and the hair mid way and up was still a bit heavy ( where she advised against getting layers) and it looked slightly boxy. My front hair looked basically the same as before, which was not what I was looking for. I called the clinic, they were very welcoming and kind and tried finding me an appointment with someone else because my stylist was not there for the rest of my stay in Chiang Mai. They offered me an appointment two days later ( I appreciate that🙏🏻) but they would cut my hair dry in its natural curly state, which means I would not be able to ever straighten it, which is important to me, as i sometimes like to wear my hair straight too.I told them that, so they advised I should keep it this way and get no further cut. I agreed because if they can’t meet my expectations, I’d rather not risk ruining my hair. I was left with a semi happy semi unhappy feeling. So I went searching for another salon. I found one at the Airport Plaza (Hair world salon), my hair stylist there immediately understood what I meant and showed me beforehand what she wanted to do and also during the cut, the results turned out exactly how I wanted! She also corrected the bottom part of my hair that was supposed to be a U shape, but was instead a square shape ( not saying this was Gam’s fault as she only trimmed one cm of my ends, after my request). I will end by saying that New York New York Hair studio are professionals, and also careful when it comes to cutting hair, I just found them a bit limiting when meeting...
Read moreFor any foreigner, looking to get your hair done at this place, think twice before booking!!
Just to explain my statement above, I'll share my experience of having my hair done there yesterday. On walking in to the salon, your greeted with what looks like a professional salon.. . Don't be fooled ... its all smoke and mirrors To explain, I am returning to CM for a holiday, but I have lived in Thailand previously for ten years, and speak reasonably good Thai. Unfortunately for my stylist, ( one with dyed red hair) she didn't ask anything about me, or even attempt to talk to me, so was unaware of that fact. To my face, she talked sweetly, but how she talked in low voices in thai with her colleague( with green hair) was pretty disgusting. Deciding that I must be just another "stupid falang" their words not mine, And commenting how she had just ripped me off with the prices she gave me following her recommendation. Both continued to talk about me and my partner who was also booked in for an appointment at the same time in the most disparaging disrespectful Manor that I ever heard from a Thai person. They thought it was OK to discuss my weight, guessing what I must be eating, and weigh, as apparently I am too fat and ugly!!!. And apparently I buy my clothes off Kohsan Rd,!!! That was just the beginning, as I sat through the next hour listening to them be soo disrespectful about me and my partner and other clients in the salon. I can honestly say i was shocked to hear all this, but showed me, how two faced these girls were.
I left it till i went to pay, To then ask them very loudly if i could give them a tip!!!
With eagerness, they looked at me, then i stated in thai, "my tip would be to find out if their clients spoke thai, begore talking about them. I told them, i guess your mothers are proud of you, and the way you treat people, and that they have bad hearts ( something thai people say when discussing someone whose not of good character.
As im sure you can imagine, now it was their turn to feel shocked and embarassed, and wasted their breath, now trying to apologise.
So in summary, NEVER AGAIN, will i go there, and to anybody considering it, find somewhere else that values ...
Read moreI’ve been coming here for 4 years, maybe twice a year. They always tend to forget who I am (chameleon vibes) unless I show them my name and number.
I used to pay 700 for a trim. I asked if I can wash, blow dry and flat iron my hair prior to a trim, they told me no, thats not an option. Okay.
I came here 2 months ago for a trim again, 1k baht. Okay, my hair got longer and its wavy/curly, so whatever.
I came here today with an appointment of course and they tried to charge me more. I didn’t stay to ask how much more. I already pay farang prices.
I don’t care that they charge foreigners more- thats the nature of this place. But I will not be told that after 2 months, your scissors got more expensive.
They do a moderate job. It’s the most expensive place to do hair here, but not the best. The only reason I returned is because I lived around the corner.
I have a Thai bank so I always make note of how much I pay, in the notes section. I also write exactly what I got (wash, blow dry, etc) This way, I can’t be overcharged.
This place will keep on increasing their prices while their service stays the same. When they trim, they either do too much or too little. I once had to go to an entire other branch to do my trim because the first location cut off a whisper of hair, to the point where it looked exactly how it did when I came.
I’m posting this right after walking out because it’s important these businesses be held accountable. They ALWAYS charge more, but after 4 years, the least you can do is remember the original higher price you gave me.
I have the receipts, so this review stays active.
My advice? Do your hair somewhere else if you live here like me, and if you travel, do it in your home country. I get my hair done in NYC and it’s cheaper than this place.
I would give this place 3 stars if they didn’t overcharge and lie in my face while i had the receipt in my phone from 3 months ago of me paying 1k for the same...
