Mark Wein's Assessment on Nengs was right on! This place is great! You can smell the slabs of pork roasting in those earthen jars meters before arriving at the restaurant. Once there , you are greeted by servers who seat you immediately. Plenty of seating is available , even on the Monday night dinnertime when I was there. I ordered the Som Thom papaya salad and roast chicken with sticky rice.. I also ordered the morning glory with roast pork diced bits. Both were served within minutes. There's a dipping sauce served with that order of roast chicken. The chicken was perfectly cooked--super moist with that deeply roasted skin still perfectly intact. The morning glory was tender with enough snap to satisfy. Great flavor with diced roast pork floating among the green. The som thom salad was ordered at a Thai chili level 1 ( sorry Mark!🤣) which for me, was perfectly spicy enough. Excellent som thom with those small slices of salted egg. Water is free at the canister. Handicap doable and recommended. Prices very reasonable. Lots of local diners . Restrooms available but rustic to say the least Hand washing station located in the back corner. Friendly staff Lots of smiles Final take--Strongly recommended. I bought a packet of the roast pork for snacking at home👍

Recommended to us by a frequent traveller to Chiang Mai, this street-style restaurant should be on your “must-visit” list if you’re a fan of roast pork belly and/or roast chicken. The meats on both the pork and the chicken are succulent, juicy and delicious. There’s clearly a lot of care in marinating the meats so they are infused with flavours, and in both cases the skin is crispy, delicious perfection (the crackling on the pork is absolutely on point). We had chicken on rice. It came with a delicious broth on the side and two delicious dipping sauces - though like other reviewers we felt that the chicken was so good it didn’t need any sauce. But the real star here is the pork. This is perfectly prepared crispy roast pork. Deeply infused with flavours and with an absolutely off-the-charts crispy crackling, we could have eaten several plates of this juicy, super tender meat. One last thing. You can buy any of their meats for take away in 100g batches. Very worthwhile as they reheat perfectly under gentle heat. Cost for dinner (including stir fried morning glory to accompany the roast pork and the chicken with rice): 250 baht (CDN $10.40) - fabulous value for money. Highly recommended.

The famous Jar roasted crispy pork in Chiang Mai. Neng Jar Roast Pork is well-known for they uniqueness style of cooking, by heating up the ceramic jar and roast for several hours. It made the crispy pork became aromatic and savory, the texture is very crunchy and tender. The taste is really good and aroma from the jar, it cook perfectly. The meat also juicy which is impressed. They also offers wide range of Thai and Esarn food, especially with the crispy pork they can cook for you with different style and technique of cooking. The baked chicken also really nice and recommended, it very juicy and yummy. Another recommend dish is Stir-Fried crispy pork with chili and garlic, it is one of the delicious dish, with a bit of spiciness and aromatic from garlic. Neng Jar Roast Pork is not only good for their crispy pork but it a lot more menu to try.

IF YOU ONLY EAT AT ONE PLACE IN CHIANG MAI, IT SHOULD BE HERE! The crispy pork is the absolute best me and my friends have ever had in our lives. We're a mixed group of NYers of Thai, Japanese, Chinese, and Puerto Rican ethnicities. We know good food. So good that we went twice and considered going again a third time before departing Chiang Mai. It's super juicy, tender, and crispy. Not hard chicharon crispy, more like perfectly crisp! Chicharon will break your teeth. Nengs crispy pork is cook to perfection. Trust me!!! The price is reasonable. The chicken is also good as well. The dipping sauces were great. They don't sell beer normally, but can request that they run to the local store and pickup some for you and tip the waiter. There is also an adjacent juice and tea vendor you can order drinks from as well.

This was where I had the crispiest roasted pork belly I have ever tried! Hands down. Whatever they were doing, it was magic. I ordered a plate set that included rice and some vegetables. The roasted pork belly and rice were sitting in a pool of the most delicious sauce, complemented by a few slices of cucumber, spring onion and a boiled egg. There was also a small bowl of soup, I was so distracted by the roast pork I didn’t notice it on my table until halfway through my meal. That soup wasn’t messing around either, it was light with a lot of flavour and elevated the meal which I didn’t think was possible. The staff was very friendly and ensured each order was brought out quickly. The restaurant had a great atmosphere and was lively with many people during dinner time.

The best pork belly I’ve had in a long time This simple, unassuming streetside restaurant has one of the best pork bellies I’ve ever eaten, in my top 3 for sure. The pork belly is cooked in a tandoor style big clay pot using charcoal as the heat source. The process takes several hours and the cooking is done at 2 different temperatures. The first stage is a lower temperature to cook the meat through, the second stage is over higher heat to crisp up the skin - and wow it was CRISPY and tender at the same time. Being cooked with charcoal, there’s a great smoky taste to the meet. They also prepare chicken using the tandoor ovens, but the pork was my favorite. Definitely going to add this place to my itinerary whenever I pass through Chiang Mai in the future.
