Khao Tom Jor Charoenchai — Restaurant in Chiang Rai Province

AVOID THIS RESTAURANT!! Especially if you don’t like being cheated.

Had very bad impression here.

BEEN CHARGED MORE THAN THE PRICE LISTED IN THE MENU.

Problem: THE MENU IS DESIGNED TO CHEAT CUSTOMERS We can sense that it could be something tricky before we order, as there was a sentence in the bottom of the menu saying that “the restaurant has its right to choose amount/price of food for the customer”, and there’s no price for each menu, only food categories and price range - eg. 60/80/100 baht. Therefore, we told the waiter that we’d like to have the duck dish in small portion and also asked for the price, which the waiter said it’d be 80 baht.

We’d been charged 100 baht for that.

We also ordered a dish in vegetable category which priced 60 to 80 baht. Also been charged 100 baht for that dish. (See pic)

We did: ASKED THE RESTAURANT OWNERS — one is a cashier, one was managing food around there. THE OWNERS ANSWER WAS ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING..

Owner1: we choose the price/amount of food according to the number of customers {note: there were 3 people in my group} Owner2: the price is fixed for each dish..

TERRIBLE SERVICE

HAD TO WAIT FOR 1 DISH FOR 45 MIN — the table that came after us even got the same dish before us. When we cancelled it, the waiter told us that the restaurant owner said that we’re NOT ALLOWED TO CANCEL THE FOOD (THAT’S NOT BEEN SERVED!!)

I am sorry, but despite other people's good reviews, I can't say the same. Probably bad luck on my side, but here's why.

We arrived a bit late, around 19.30 hrs. We tried to order some dishes but at least half were rejected because they ran out. Ok, this part is fair. What wasn't fair was that their

Fried kale with salted fish came pretty much no salted fish. Roasted red pork was tough meat. They served us wrong items which was fair but they also put our soup on another empty table which was heavily salted.

We waited like 15 minutes between 2nd and 3rd dish and had to constantly ask the waiters to send us the rest of food.

They tried to upsell a useless lemonade ( but it tasted alright tbf)

Came here on a whim while in the area. We were after a local experience and so this restaurant seemed promising. It’s indeed mostly patronised by Thai locals and the ambience and atmosphere was befitting, no complaints. The staff were nice and friendly to us even though they couldn’t speak English. However food wise was where it fell short. We got the fried snapper with garlic, seafood hot soup, and porridge. The porridge was bland and watery. The soup was wayyy too sour, we barely had half. The fried snapper was decent, crispy and hot but lacking in flavour. The rest of the dishes on the menu didn’t sound too special either. We probably didn’t order the right dishes by looking at the other glowing reviews, but based on this experience I wouldn’t recommend going out of your way...
