We nearly walked out when we first saw the menu - the prices are much higher than your average Thailand meal (keeping in mind you can eat a curry for $2 in most parts), and we were tired of being ripped off for simple vegan eats in this part of the world. BUT, we are so glad we stayed and gave it a shot - this place is everything that an upmarket, healthy, passion-project should be. We had the Mushroom & Onions on homemade bread, it comes with some hummus and a wholesome side of fresh salad, really different and special. Well worth the price! You would pay 3 or 4 times that amount where I come from. Also, the coffee is done really well, high quality. We went back for the chocolate cake, which also seems overpriced, but again, well worth it once you see what you get. So delicious, full of nutrition and a serving enough for two! Don't expect cheap and cheerful thai food here (btw, to some of the previous reviewers I would like to say - please don't review a place if you didn't even try their food, based on prices you saw, it doesn't make sense) instead expect a professional, high quality, conscious meal. Make it a special treat if you're on a tight budget. Or if you can afford western prices, make the most of it and go back everyday. Just don't miss out on this place. Don't judge a book...

A Hidden Gem with the Best Vegan Burgers in Thailand!

I had the pleasure of dining at this incredible vegan spot, and I can honestly say it's one of the best experiences I've had in Thailand! From the moment I walked in, I was welcomed with warmth and genuine hospitality, thanks to the amazing owner who truly goes above and beyond to ensure every guest feels special.

The atmosphere is simply wonderful—relaxed, inviting, and full of positive energy. The owner has created a space where not only is the food exceptional, but the overall vibe is one of kindness and care. It’s clear she pours her heart into every aspect of the restaurant, from the delicious food to the thoughtful attention to detail in the decor.

Now, let's talk about the food—particularly the vegan burgers. I have to say, they are hands down the best I’ve ever had in Thailand! Every bite is bursting with flavor, and the quality of the ingredients is top-notch. Whether you’re a vegan or just someone who appreciates great food, these burgers will leave you completely satisfied and craving more.

Overall, this restaurant is a must-visit for anyone looking for not just a meal, but a truly memorable experience. Five stars just don’t seem enough to express how wonderful...

I seldom give a perfect score to any restaurant but Kunda is exceptional. My particular favourites are the vegan burgers and hand crafted chocolate treats, created with loving care from organic and animal free ingredients. Breads and sauces that are made in-house are exclusive to the Kunda customer.

This is my favourite vegan experience in Chiang Rai . I love the coconut chai tea and Kunda's lemon and tumeric drink and often go to say hi, chat and watch the world go by.

Service from the beautiful European owner and her lovely Thai associate is warm, friendly and very entertaining. Lena is a wonderful, loving host and her vibe is absolutely special. The elegant decore  comprises carved wooden mandalas and Buddhist motifs, Seating is semi communal around large traditional style teak tables where travellers can mix and mingle or chat with the locals. The beautiful white and gold temple which is directly opposite adds beautifully to the ambience of the room, framed by Lena's sidewalk garden.

Atmosphere is relaxed and gorgeous, with background music that's a combination of familiar and ecletic genres. I give Kunda 5 stars and would give it more but the rating only goes up to five...

Kunda was the first place we went to after arriving in Chiang Rai since we were jonesing for some healthy food/veggies. Kunda is a quick walk from the clock tower and right across from a beautiful temple. We were greeted by Lina who is a beautiful, hilarious and sassy Polish woman who is the visionary behind all of their food! We sat upstairs where there were pillows on the floor and cool artwork on the walls - their restaurant has a very chill and welcoming vibe about it. We had their green smoothie, coffee, big salad and the eggplant tomato sandwich. All were absolutely delicious, super fresh tasting with complex flavours in the dressing, pesto and hummus. We had a lovely chat with Lina’s husband Martin who was so welcoming and friendly and told us about their story starting the restaurant. For those looking for healthy fresh vegan food and are not opposed to paying a bit more than you would to get local inexpensive food (our bill came to around $32 CAD) then Kunda is a must go! We were just sad they were closed on Monday so we couldn’t eat there again before leaving Chiang Rai!
