River Khwae — Restaurant in Kanchanaburi Province

The waitresses were not paying attention to the customers. They were on their cellphones, and were otherwise just talking to each other. There were no napkins at my table, and I had to look for them myself at other tables. I saw people walk up to the waitresses and ask if they’d please bring them a beverage, or their bills. When I paid, I waited for my change. The young waitress came pack, pointed to the money inside, and gesturally asked if she could keep the rest of my money. I took the check folder from her, and gave a smaller tip from my change than what I initially intended to give. This is THE place to book a meal on a night when there is the Bridge on the River Kwai show. You get the best possible view (if you jostle or hassle a bit) of the show without hours of queueing for seats in the public viewing area. Tip them for a 'clear view' table. It's totally worth it.

It's expensive on the night - B600 for a set meal which is only just about average fare, plus drinks. I would only give the restaurant 3 stars based on the food.

But other than on show nights, it is well located and you can enjoy views of the Khwae River...
