Chef Chalong Restaurant — Restaurant in Ko Lanta Yai

We chance by this restaurant after checking the Google review by others (all 5 stars) and indeed the food here is really great.

Ordered 4 dishes in total: Deep fried fish in tamarind sauce - 290 THB Tom yum soup (seafood) - 180 THB Stir fried kale with crispy pork - 140 THB Deep fried shrimp cakes - 160 THB 3 x plain rice - 60 THB 1 x Chang beer (small) - 60 THB Free vegetables (tomatoes, cucumber, long beans and cabbage)

Total rightfully should be 890 THB but as you can see from the receipt I was being charged 1170 THB. It was an oversight of me that I didn't check the bill after paying and only discoverd it after I got back to the hotel. Its isn't about the money that I'm after but its more of being honest with the customer. I called back the restaurant and she did a recalculation to inform me that the deep fried fish was actually 390THB instead of 290THB but the receipt indicates as 290THB. Even with the additional 100 THB, I should be only paying 990 THB but instead I'm paying 1170 THB. They did offered to refund me the difference but I need to ride back to the restaurant. Eventually I decided to give it a miss since the difference was not huge. The menu is there for everyone to validate my calculation above. 😆

In any case, for all future customers do check your bill clearly to avoid any doubt of overpaying like me 😁

The restaurant food is highly recommended though and the portion are huge for 2 pax. 👍👍👍👍👍

We saw the amazing reviews for this restaurant and decided to give it a try. The food is delicious and the lovely lady serving couldn’t be more friendly and hospitable. We asked her for recommendations on what to order and she suggested some Thai options different to what we usually have from her home region in Thailand, so we could venture out a bit. And we were blown away!

We ordered the fried fish with garlic which came with a green mango salad, grilled pork salad and Pad Thai. The fish was super soft and cooked to perfection, even though it was deep fried, and was the best fish we’ve had in Thailand so far! The crispy garlic it comes with complements it so well! Both salads were really tasty, grilled pork was Thai spicy just how we like it and the mango salad was so refreshing with the fish. The Pad Thai was very tasty too with the peanuts served on the side and extra spice on the table for us too in case we wanted it.

If the lovely lady serving wasn’t friendly enough, she has the best dog ever called Noody (I hope I spelt that right!) who wants tummy rubs and is the most friendly, placid, well-natured dog. Would 100% recommend and we will definitely be returning...
