If you find yourself on Koh Lanta and in search of an authentic Greek culinary experience, El Greco Greek Taverna is the place to be. This bustling spot is a testament to its popularity, drawing in a crowd eager to dive into the rich flavors of Greece.
Our meal was a delightful journey through Greek cuisine, starting with the vegetable meze platter—a vibrant array of Mediterranean delights that set the tone for what was to come. But the star of the evening had to be the chicken gyro, wrapped in a soft, warm pita; it was a perfect blend of spices, tender chicken, and fresh veggies, accompanied by that iconic tzatziki sauce. The portions were hearty, ensuring a satisfying meal that felt like a feast in Athens.
It's worth noting that El Greco's vibrant atmosphere comes with a buzz of activity, especially during peak hours. The staff, while evidently stretched by the diner demand, maintained their friendliness and did their best to accommodate everyone with a smile. Their efforts in such a lively setting were commendable, adding to the authenticity of the dining experience.
A couple of caveats for future visitors: the drink options might not cover an extensive range, and the seating arrangement leans more towards the functional side, which might not be the comfiest. However, once the food arrives, these minor inconveniences fade into the background, overshadowed by the culinary delights that await.
El Greco Greek Taverna is more than just a meal; it's an experience that captures the essence of Greek dining, complete with all its vibrancy and warmth. The combination of delicious, generous servings and the spirited ambiance makes for a memorable evening. Just be sure to arrive a bit early to snag a good spot and avoid the dinner rush. This taverna is a testament to Koh Lanta's diverse culinary landscape, offering a slice of Greece that's well...
Read moreMixed experience at a local greek restaurant. Okayish food at high prices. Plenty of room for improvement.
We had lamb gyros, chicken gyros, bifteki some pita and tzatziki.
Positive: Homemade pita was excellent. Tzatziki was also good, the portion was pretty small though. The chicken gyros was good.
Negative: The bifteki was falling apart because it was that dry plus it didn't include much feta. The lamb gyros included parts with skin and plenty of fat, that's a no go. The gyros included exactly 4 potatoe sticks on each plate which is ridiculous. Olive oil could have been used more graciously or offered to the client at the table.
Service was ok, not really friendly and felt rushed. Probably due to lack of man power. Missed the usual signs of greek hospitality like offering an ouzo or raki on the house.
At the end we left the restaurant full but not satisfied. On top of the mixed experience this ended up being one of the most expensive bills in a non fine dining restaurant on our trip. The prices equal European standards. The quality of food absolutely doesn't match the comparably high prices at this restaurant.
Nevertheless it was a pleasant flavour contrast to the local cuisine. But at the end we would not return to the restaurant. There are better places on Koh Lanta offering international cuisine, maybe not greek.
With small improvements on the food quality, hospitality and guest experience this could be a winner. The high prices probably leave room for investments. Otherwise I would advocate to cut the prices to a more...
Read moreMy partner and I drove past and saw this place and decided to give it a try.
They did the best gyros I’ve ever had. I’ve been all over Greece and this place beats everything I ate over there!
I also just want to comment on a few negative reviews that are rating 1 star for not giving free alcohol on arrival….as an Australian this is never expected from any resteraunt I’ve ever been to regardless if it’s Greek or not. When I was in Greece I occasionally got given free shots/alcohol however, I’m in Thailand… I don’t expect it! There maybe other Greek spots in Thailand that do give free shots however, just because one place gives them doesn’t mean they all have to!!! Some people holidaying here are so entitled I can’t believe it.
But honestly! The food here is amazing! The portion sizes, amazing! My boyfriend usually has 2 plates of food but here he was full after his gyros.
The photos don’t do it justice, this gyros was huge! Don’t be turned off by the 4 potato wedges, trust me!...
