This was the place we most wanted to go to and it didn’t disappoint. We had high expectations. Our youngest son Adam (4) fell asleep and they kindly made him a bed out of 2 chairs. Michael (8) had a special order of chicken skewers and rice and was very happy. I would say very child friendly but still recommend it for adults or those with older children simply because it’s a nice experience. This will have a second review because we are going back before our holiday ends with my sister and her husband. So let’s get down to the first visit.
On Saturday we had Chicken Satay very well cooked and the sauce was good but not the best so 8/10. Spicy pork balls were very tasty 10/10. Crispy squid again tasty and 8/10 seems fair. My scores are based against food I’ve tried across the world so any scores 8+ still places it very highly.
Mains time. Lamb tenderloin Massaman always a classic. Along with Pad Thai these are things we always feel are great bench markers. In my opinion the beauty of Massaman is most lamb slow cooked falls appart. However tenderloin is exquisite cooked and sliced to perfection. I’ve eaten many Massaman and I have to give this 10/10 as the best I’ve had.
The next main was Barracuda Panang. Sauce not as spicy as some but delicious. Fish itself was very meaty and not to my taste. Over all this scores 8/10. It’s very good for fish lovers but simply because of the many alternative options on the menu I will try something else.
The final main was sea king prawns with wing beans. Never had wing beans and was talked into it by the owner’s passionate recommendation! The taste and crunch was texturally perfect and the prawns very large and cleaned up and butterflied perfectly which is the standard I expect from any good restaurant. I score 10/10 because it was faultless and I would enjoy again.
Overall score 9.5. The starters are very good. Amongst the best but I’ve been lucky to have had many excellent starters and the reality is these are just a notch below those. But that’s personal preference as I prefer a thicker satay sauce and crispier squid. The mains again some would love barracuda but maybe I didn’t. Glad to have tried it. If I’d had different starters it could have been a 10/10. Two perfect mains really is excellent because that places the restaurant as the best I’ve ever had on 2 mains. That’s meant to be overall positive.
I will review again on our visit next week and see how different...
Read moreWe were staying at the Ritz and decided to go offsite for dinner. What a huge mistake. The owner’s husband is flat out rude and could care less if you are eaten alive by mosquitoes.
Also, warning - there is zero ambiance — the restaurant is right next to a bunch of roadside bushes and trash, and next to the landing path of the USM airport. When we mentioned how uncomfortable we were with the four of us being eaten alive by swarms of mosquitoes within minutes of being seated, he literally told us we could leave as they had 5 parties who wanted our table. We were not offered another table even though the place was empty.
Appalled by this white male’s response (one of the owners), we said ok, fine then, we will move to another restaurant. While I called Sabienglae for a new reservation, he then and there asked us to leave at that moment and told us he canceled the check.
Be forewarned - about the location, next to shacks and mosquito infested bushes and mucky ponding, planes and garbage, and one equally garbage owner. Oh and it is quite difficult to get a Grab from here off of this dark, but busy side road.
Update: The owner’s wife replied to me claiming we did not pay — how completely disingenuous (or perhaps her not so lovely German hubby failed to share his behavior with her); we were asked to leave and we were not allowed to move tables/finish our apertifs by him, simply for complaining about the table/mosquito situation; he told us “just go - I’ve canceled your check and order.” Note there were several open tables in the area with ceiling fans which may have helped (the restaurant was empty!) but the white male owner refused to let us sit there. I mention the owner’s husband’s race again only for one reason - we have not felt such indecent and abhorrent behavior by any Thai person during our 2 week trip. Thai people are truly gracious and wonderful. So it may be something non-white patrons should consider before dining here. You may receive similar treatment, sadly.
Finally, the pictures and description of the “mangrove” is quite deceiving. I will say nothing more.Visit Pak Tai or any of the waterfront restaurants in Koh Samui, and enjoy the hospitality of lovely...

We had a fantastic dining experience at Supattra's! The owner explained every dish on the menu and it was fantastic hearing where the ingredients were sourced and how fresh everything was!
Starters: We ordered crispy squid (felt guilty ordering calamri in Thailand) but it was worth it! The squid was so soft, tasted fresh and the dipping sauce on the side was tasty (but lacked a bit of depth for me). We also ordered the Grilled Mushroom (King oyster mushroom), this was very tasty but the highlight of the dish was the Supattra's house sauce it came with! So refreshing and full of flavour.
Mains: My partner orderded the lamb massaman curry and said this was the best massaman curry he's had in Thailand so far and the second best he's ever had (second to a place back home in Perth which has sadly closed now).
I got the blue crab curry with medium spicy and it was amazing! Perfect level of spice to my liking and the curry flavour paired so nicely with the crab meat. The chef has done all the work and has removed the meat from the shell and there was plenty of it! Loved the dish!
Dessert: I got the homemade coconut ice cream. Highly recommended! Was so refreshing and loved that it came out in half a coconut so you also get to eat the coconut flesh :)
Toblerone mousse was also very nice!
Highlight of the dining experience was meeting Supattra, the chef and the owner's wife! This earned 5 stars for me. She came out during our mains and asked how our meal was.
The service was 10/10 with all the lovely ladies speaking fantastic English and so attentive.
The restaurant had likely one of the best wine list in Koh Samui, if not Thailand.
Highly recommend this restaurant if you're not a budget as the higher prices (what I would pay in Aus) are commensurate with the quality...
