The reviews gave me high expectations, as did the name, so I drove 20 minutes to have dinner here. There were a few high points: The chai tea had a unique and strong flavor - top 10 The mint sauce and chutney were pleasant. The view of the water might have been nice in the day time.
Atmosphere: Terrible jarring music, bright lights and very weak design on the upper deck.
The food and service:
One of the worst naan's I've ever tasted. It was very thin and a bit brittle.
All other food- including a salad - in a mostly empty restaurant took 30 minutes. When I asked why it was all so slow they talked about it taking time (to slice a few carrots and cucumbers on a plate).
The salad said "Indian salad with tomato, onions, cucumbers, carrots and assorted spices." What arrived was carrots, tomato and cucumber with no onions and no spices. When I complained I was told "Europeans don't want onions and spices." I told her she could remove them from the menu or let Europeans order a different dish or edit it but could not tell me I was getting something and then not provide it. Then I was offered some "complimentary" onions. I said: "No. You are finally offering what I have paid for after keeping me waiting and deleting them in the first place."
I told the waiter I wanted mild curry and the Bindi was mild. She suggested replacing the over-cooked bindi with the Alo Gobi, which was actually very good except for one thing: It was the spiciest, hottest curry I've ever had - too hot to eat all of it.
No one checked on me when my Chai ran out so I went to the counter - no one was there so I went down stairs and brought my empty cup of chai and asked for another one. It never arrived. So I asked the waitress when my food came and she explained that the kitchen had not understood - nor had it bothered to check.
I asked for some cold water and was charged 30b and given a plastic bottle rather than a nice Indian cup.
I ordered a chicken wrap and it had a lot of sugar in it - not at all Indian flavor - I told the waitress I wanted tandoori chicken flavor if possible.
I ordered Jeera rice and was given Thai Jasmine rice with cumin seeds. "This is not Indian Rice," I pointed out. "No, we do our Jeera Rice with Thai Rice." "But I came to an Indian restaurant for Basmati rice" "Well we do it with Thai rice." Of course they didn't mention that ahead of time.
Waiting around to be irritated by another mistake is the best way to describe the experience. I paid half the price for a Vegetarian Tali that took only 15 minutes, had very attentive staff and a way better ambiance at another place on the water.
Go to this place if you are standing right in front of it and don't want to drive somewhere else, but try other places if at...
Read moreWe’ll, where do I start? 1/ It’s immaculately clean. 2/ Great food. The best meals that we have enjoyed in Samui on this visit. 3/ Location. Truly the best location for a meal in 30 years of visiting Samui.
What a great experience. Only that they list a Thai and Indian menu, was I able to convince my wife to visit an Indian restaurant. On entering, the up stairs deck, the view of the Samui sunset is amazing and we were greeted by the lovely host, Sweetie. We were seated and noticed the fresh sea breeze didn’t require any electric fans. The only outdoor meal on Samui that we have ever enjoyed without the need for electric fans.
I ordered a shrimp/prawn dish and asked the host to pick a curry for me. “Spectacular”! My wife ordered butter chicken and loved it.
We usually eat Thai (occasionally Italian) food when here in Thailand. This is the first time trying Indian food in Thailand (occasionally do in our home town of Melbourne). As we are here for over a month, we will be back during our stay.
Thanks and again, what a...
