I asked around for suggestions to take my partner out as a birthday celebration and we dined at the Cliff. Amazing location with beautiful views and nice staff. Starter of mussels were very nice. My partner said her lamb chops were lovely I pushed the boat out and went for I think their most expensive meal, the T-bone steak. Unfortunately it was without doubt one of the worst steaks I’ve had served. I asked medium rare, it was more blue to rare and raw in the middle. Lots of fat and gristle, and the potatoes were cold. I was asked by two different members of staff if I was enjoying my meal and when I said not one simply asked if I wanted another beer… I appreciate from reading other reviews it seems it was a “one off”

I gave it a higher rating based on my partners food and our starter. My steak was terrible and rated a zero. As I say it may have been a one off but I expected some sort of concern or apology which unfortunately wasn’t forthcoming. On top of that a service charge of 10% was added For a price of about £130 it was extremely overpriced. Very disappointing.

PLEASE NOTE…

Further to my initial review, today ( the day following my meal at the Cliff bar and grill) I have received a very considerate and generous reply from the owner as you can see.

I did explain at the time that I believed it was a one off bad experience and this would support my belief.

I would like to thank Nicky for the very generous offer of a complimentary meal and would have loved to give The Cliff another try but unfortunately we are returning home soon and have other commitments.

I appreciate you taking the time to respond in such a kind and sincere way. Best...

We would’ve given this restaurant more stars for its food but we were left feeling very disappointed and let down by the service from the supervisor/manager working last night. We booked 5 days in advance to guarantee a table for my friend’s birthday. Spoke to the a lady on the phone who was working that night- she said ask for me when you arrive, I’m managing that evening and I will arrange a cake for your friend and make a fuss of her. We mentioned it as we arrived, finished our meals, my husband went up to the waitress to remind her about the cake , TWICE, but nothing! Then a waitress came over with our bill and explained she was charging us for the birthday cake that never came-To be honest it was a shambles from start to finish! We booked this restaurant for an extra special occasion, we travelled in a taxi 20 minutes each way, we were promised something special to celebrate a birthday but it was such a let down. Although the food was delicious and our waitress was very efficient, the manager working that night really let us down and we walked out feeling so disappointed. This was meant to be a ‘special’ birthday surprise and despite being promised and my husband reminding the staff TWICE, this was completely over-looked. Fantastic restaurant but very poor customer service.

I have heard many great things about The Cliff and came there with my boyfriend for my birthday dinner. I wanted to order a Canadian Lobster. This is specifically what I came there for. When we asked for it, we were told that it’s not available for 1 year already.. and instead we can be offered a Phuket lobster for the same price as the Canadian lobster. But the Canadian lobster still shows up on the menu and online. It’s also all over the website and photos. We made sure to check, before we made a reservation. To be honest, if an item is just not available at the moment - ok. But when an item is not available for one year, it would be good to update the menu, in order not to mislead the customer. But to top it off, the price of a local Phuket lobster is the same as the price of a Canadian lobster. So an imported Canadian lobster costs the same as a lobster that I can buy in Thailand on the market. These are different lobsters as well. That’s also very interesting. I then asked for Alaskan crab legs, which weren’t available as well… not sure when they were available last. The service is wonderful though. Drinks were lovely. Atmosphere is nice. We will come back. But the menu which was misleading was a...

An open setting , by the seaside, yet cosy ambience serving a nice mix of Thai selections and prime meat cuts. A fusion if you will, on an island that offers all things Thai. The menu was just a few pages long, not enough to lose you and just enough to grab your attention to their specialities. I loved it. The gently sauteed shrimp in a spicy sauce was delicately done. My main course was a half roast chicken served with a super spicy dip that blew my mind and my palate. Dinner ended with a tiramisu pudding that was ....good. A small yet carefully selected choice of wines lent for more than a touch of class, though a bit pricey. At TBH 200 ( $7) for a shot of Bacardi , the other spirits didn't seem unreasonably priced. So, if you've spent your time on Koh Samui gorging on local cuisine, but still need a comfort rib eye , medium well , Australian Angus( $ 50) or even Kobe, in a more familiar setting, drop in. And order a Chianti to go. BTW, the chef usually pays a visit to your table with a genuine interest in guiding you through your choices. A small but warm touch.

Always go there at least one a week but this time different I did not put make up on and my boyfriend wearing short I did understand it’s 24 December but cmon two times you treated us like we’re homeless 😂 normally we go because we’re too busy to cook at home so we choose to eat there but for god sake they asked if I have reservations for table I said no and I do understand if you don’t have table 1 problems we can’t eat more than 1 hour 2 they put us at the table near the entrance which is while I’m eating I can hear and can feel people walked pass me while I’m eating 3 they always put us at the table that they wouldn’t put any customers there 4 I heard people who come after us did not book a table but got the good table And good service so no more for me ka I hope you enjoy taking care of tourists instead of residents and please imagine you eating and you hear people slam the door and always walk around you and I didn’t go there for free ka money is not the problems but it’s how you choose to treated people p.s the picture is where I sat and it’s my view for 3900 ฿

Fabulous experience at The Cliff Restaurant. They answered emails promptly and rearranged things so we could have a cliff top table for our last night on Ko Samui. Service was especially polite and they went to trouble with little extras like complimentary olives and bread and sorbet. We ordered Australian beef and rocket appetizer and the flavours were wonderful. The main courses were amply big enough which pleased us as some reviews had panned their meal sizes. Our meals were tasty and we saw magnificent lobster platters being delivered to other tables too. However for me the highlight was when I asked for the chocolate fondant for dessert which was no longer on the menu and they hurried away very willingly and made it for me especially. That's service! And as for cost... It was a very good price for the quality of what we ate. It is fine dining so I would expect a higher price but it was about $70 cheaper than we would pay at home for the same meal.
