Decided to give this place a try for dinner upon recommendation by my hotel for a good seafood restaurant. We ordered steamed fish, tiger prawns (both charged by weight and so we checked the price and expected size/quantity just to be sure we wont be shortchanged) a veg dish, squid and the local fried rolls. Menu prices didnt seem too pricey. The dishes were nothing to rave about. However, do be wary of their waiters! The waiter who took our orders & served us our food approached us to ask if we could pay our bill...while we were in the midst of eating! Told him we will settle once we are done. When it was time to settle the bill, he brought the bill booklet to us with two bills inside - one with the restaurant letterhead and another smaller bill without. He acted rather nervously and stood so close as if he didnt want anyone to notice the content of the booklet. I had to ask him to stand away!Afraid that we were being fleeced, we drilled him on every item billed. It turned out that half the charge of the tiger prawns and fish were billed in the smaller bill. He assured us 'all same same' and that we just needed to add both subtotals. Once we were sure we werent being charged for something we didnt order, I took out my credit card to pay. This waiter told us there was no credit card payment facility and we had to pay in cash. So we paid and he returned with just our change (no receipt). As we were about to leave, I turned curious and walked back to the main counter. There, I noticed the credit card swiping machine!! I enquired from the girl at the booth and she told me payment by credit card is accepted for bills above THB1000!! We suspect the waiter and his waitress friend are cheating the restaurant of their earnings especially on seafood orders based on weight. We quickly left not wanting to invite trouble on our family with kids! Just be extra careful if you do decide to dine here. With such dishonest staff, do not take things for granted with your belongings and check your bill to ensure you dont...
Read moreWaited 30 mins to place orders for Drinks ... Ordering 3 coconut shakes and a mango shake took 2 attempts and 3 waitresses..ok I understand the English language barrier but I was showing the menu in Thai !!! Appetisers were then ordered ...after 10 mins we were asked to order the main dishes which we did... Drinks eventually arrived 2 coconut and 2 mango shakes almost right but not quite..ok let it go ... Then our fried rice arrived before the appetisers ... Waitress saw the error and took them back ... Appetisers finally arrived (now 50 mins ) within 2 mins the mains were delivered !!! Ok I get it Thai custom there is no starter type system... So I then checked the rice as I suspected that it probably sat on the side somewhere getting cold ... Exactly right the rice was stone cold!!! They took it back and within 2 mins returned to us reheated in a microwave .. My son was complaining there were crunchy bits in his pad Thai I told him it was probably peanuts but no upon inspection the noodle was not cooked !!! My daughter then found a very long black hair in her rice...I asked to see the manager as this was the final thing that I could not except..10 mins later he came ... Didn't really care said he would take off the pad Thai or re cook it and offered a 10% discount ..we paid and left .. On the way out we saw a staff member washing her hands in gutter water and dried them on the back of her already dirty trousers...the floors are greasy and you stick to the tables a cleaning regime needs to be put into place .. The tuck tuck ladies selling food have better hygiene standards than this place... And the food is not as good here..Lesson learnt I guess not always the most expensive is the best.. I know they were busy but if you can't keep up standards reduce your capacity !!! I wouldn't recommend this place as there are many cleaner and better quality restaurants...
Read moreFor over a decade, Wang Sai has been my go-to destination for seafood in Krabi, Ao Nang. With more than twenty visits under my belt, I can confidently say that each experience has been nothing short of spectacular. My latest visit was just yesterday, and it reaffirmed why this place holds a special spot in my heart—and stomach. The seafood at Wang Sai is as fresh as it gets, caught daily and cooked with the authentic Thai flavors that dance on your palate. The prices are competitive, making it a steal for the quality you receive. For around 1,100 Thai baht, my wife and I indulge in an appetizer, two hearty main courses, a vegetable dish, and drinks—a feast fit for royalty without the royal expense. The servers at Wang Sai are extremely polite, and always ready to assist. There's a unique charm in watching the skilled chefs prepare your tiger prawns just a few steps away, adding a touch of excitement to the dining experience.
This isn't a tourist hotspot; it's where the locals come for their seafood fix. That alone speaks volumes about its authenticity and quality. If your taste buds lean towards the genuine Thai spice and zest, Wang Sai will not disappoint. However, for those who prefer a milder flavor profile with a fusion twist, the Indian restaurants nearby offer a different kind of culinary adventure. Wang Sai isn't just a restaurant; it's a culinary journey that celebrates the best of Thai seafood. Whether you're a spice enthusiast or a seafood aficionado, this restaurant is a must-visit. It's not just about the food; it's about the experience—an authentic Thai culinary delight that keeps you coming...
