Blue Ox — Restaurant in Mae Hong Son Province

Bad experience. We had a reservation for a group. It was raining. Some of the party arrived 20 min early, others were stuck in the rain. Even though the table was ready, Blue Ox REFUSED to let the people who arrived early order anything until the whole party came. Would not even let people order drinks!! What an absurd disservice!! The food was also a huge disappointment. The caesar salad was utterly substandard, the dressing was not tasty, there was nothing good about it. I sincerely do not recommend it unless you want to be let down. One person ordered ribs, which were so bad he wouldn't even eat them. Not the best piece of meat to begin with, then very badly cooked, and bland flavor. Another person is a chef, and ordered pasta. She too, found it so unappetizing that she only ate a few bites and stopped. Another person ordered a beer, and had to wait so long that he ended up going to get it himself. One person ordered the steak and this was the only good thing. Agreed, while everything else we tried was on a range of bad-to-awful, the steak was delicious.

There was live music, which was nice.

Overall, the treatment was unbelievably poor (couldn't even order drinks until everyone arrived!!), and the food was on the whole unenjoyable.

Prices are also higher than listed on the website. You will 100% find better food, at a better price, going...

Probably one of the very few fine dining restaurants in Pai. It’s widely popular there as they keep the restaurant classy and formal. Good and wide variety of foods. Not the best in terms of taste but it’s hard to find something like that around the area. The best part is the seating. Outdoor ones that are by the walking street is the most popular so make sure to book it first if you intend to experience it. Indoors are pretty good as well and the back door seating that faces the pool is really good although it’s not much for formal dining but cozy style. The prices are higher compared to others but it serves justice to the food which are always fresh & good shareable portions. The signature ribs are a must try as they claim. But I suggest you book the specialty dish upon booking the table as it gets gone pretty quick. They only have specific amount of meat a day to cook to keep it fresh everyday. And the service here is just so good and accommodating although it gets a bit slow sometimes because of the number of customers dining. Most of the times, they have a short live music as well that suits the dinner ambience. One of the chef here usually comes out later in the evening right after the last order to check on everyone which is actually a really good sign that we always appreciate everytime we dine here.
