SHANGHAI RESTAURANT — Restaurant in Pattaya City

I was looking forward to eating here after seeing it on a YouTube video. Is well lit and uses plenty of glass and red and gold colouring to present an oriental feel. The menu seemed devoid of a number of well known Shanghai dishes so we went with hot and sour soup, beef in mala chilli and baked minced pork and eggplant. The soup was lacking the assorted mushrooms and sourness and was a small portion. The mala chilli was too strong a flavour for me but worth a try. The beef could have been sliced thinner or into smaller chunks. My favourite was without a doubt the minced pork and eggplant. It came out with a lot of heat and kept it all the way through the meal. The spicyness was just right and the eggplant and mince cooked just perfectly. The toilets were up a winding flight of steps which was a little annoying on a full stomach. During the hour that we were there the restaurant was no more than 1/3 full. The aircon was only just adequate and the lack of a UV light zapper meant I had to fight off the flies when eating. Shanghai is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in Pattaya with superb cuisine at fair prices. I've been coming here for the past few years. They are newly reopened after remodeling during the last few months. They have an eclectic menu, including hand-pulled noodles (which you can watch the chef make) eggrolls various pot-stickers and dumplings like my favorite, Xia Long Bao (steamed soup dumplings). บรรยากาศ - แนวร้านอาหารจีนแบบภัตตาคารเหลาเลย แต่ใช้โต๊ะสี่เหลี่ยมนะไม่ใช่โต๊ะกลมแบบมีหมุนๆตรงกลาง จัดโต๊ะแบบเว้น่องทางเดินตรงกลางร้านไว้กว้างมาก(น่าจะเกี่ยวกับฮวงจุ้ยมั้งนะ ถ้าให้เดา) เมนูอาหารคืออาหารจีน ปรุงแบบจีน เสริฟแบบจีน และกินแบบจีน วัตถุดิบชั้นดีเลิศ ปลาช่อนที่สั่งคือตัวสุดท้ายในบ่อของวันนี้เลย(ฮือ ของโทษนะน้อน) พยายามชวนพ่อแม่สั่งอะไรที่ไม่เคยทานมาลองดูซึ่งผลปรากฏว่า พ่อแม่ชอบแฮะ

ราคา - 1200 บาทถ้วน อาหาร 5 อย่าง รวมทั้งเก็กฮวยร้อนและชาร้อนแบบเติมน้ำร้อนรีฟิลรัวๆ คุ้มมาก อิ่มจนได้ห่อเอาต้มปลากลับบ้านอีกเกินครึ่งชามใหญ่ๆ อาหารคือน้องะนักงานบอกว่าจานเล็กๆ ไม่เยอะทุกอัน แต่พอมาเสริฟแต่ละอันคือให้เยอะมาก โดยเฉพาะต้มปลา Amazing สุด

รสชาติ - อร่อยแบบที่เคยไปกินที่จีนเลยฮะ เสี่ยวหลงเปา 6 ชิ้นน้ำซุปด้านในอร่อยแป้งนุ่มกำลังดี หมูน้ำแดงเหมาเจ๋อตุงลองสั่งมาทานเพราะเห็นมันแปลกดี(ตอนแรกพ่อจะสั่งขาหมูแต่เราบังคับให้สั่งอะไรใหม่ๆกินบ้าง) อร่อยนุ่มละมุนลิ้นแบบเป็นกับข้าวชั้นดีเลยจานนี้ ผัดกระเจี๊ยบก็ผัดมาได้ไม่มียางยืดๆเหนียวๆเลย คือทำมาดีมาก ข้าวผัดราชวัง(อาจจะพิมพ์ด้วยเสียงมั้งเลยแปลเพี้ยน เพราะ 皇家 อ่านว่า huáng jiā แปลว่าราชวงศ์) แต่มันก็คือข้าวกล้องผัดผักสามสีใส่ต้นหอมธรรมดาๆแหละ และที่เด็ดสุดของวันนี้คือ "ปลาช่อนโฮกฮือ" เอ้ย "ปลาช่อนต้มผักกาดดอง" เพราะถ้าให้เปรียบเทียบ(แบบความคิดส่วนตัว) ก็น่าจะเป็นต้มโฮกฮือในแบบจีน เพราะรสเผ็ดเค็มเปรี้ยวมาครบ อร่อยแบบพริกหมาล่าแซบสะใจเลยฮะ

เป็นหนึ่งในร้านอาหารจีนที่กินแล้วรู้สึกถูกตาต้องใจครับ น่าจะได้มากินอีก...
