The day I was there, street works were going on ... so it was not great, lot of noise. Nearly full house. I upgraded atmosphere to 4 star as the road works has nothing to do with the owner. Staff : ok, bit in a hurry. Efficient. Breakfast : quite good. Ok price. Nothing wrong with it imho. I saw their name on a board on the baht bus too, so they really are doing a job of advertising the place. Will be happy to return one day.
Edit : and so I did. On my second visit, had the big breakfast again, a fruit salad that turned out even better than it looked on the menu. Nice place. Nice owner who is certainly open to customer's logic. Bit loud girls and atmosphere but since all other things are good, no reason to skip this one. And indeed, works have moved now. No more trouble in front of the door.
Revisited 2025 : had the breakfast again. Chose the 199 baht one, not the 280 baht which I think is over the top, certainly for 2 people. Slow days in Jomtien now. Many places need to do with 0 customers. Wombat still got people in but you can see it's low season. Good place to eat. Nice breakfast. Honest price for seller and buyer. Plenty of staff available. Small remark : Some sausages could use some more time in the pan. Turned out a bit greasy on the plate. I guess it's not a habbit everywhere to dry them off a bit, like I do at home. To get rid of excessive fat. On the other hand, this shows Wombat uses good, 100 % fresh and clean oil. Well done. This place has a boss who is watching over his business. Good ! Conclusion : value for buck is 4/5 with the quality being their main selling point. It's still a place to go for decently cooked food. Their kitchen staff...
Read moreI'm not usually one to go to themed pubs for a variety of reasons. A friend of mine recently moved to Jomtien and this became his local so, when I drove down to visit, I caught up with him here. Beers and spirits are excellent prices, and the place has quiet YouTube music playing with appropriate sports on TVs with their sound down, allowing conversation. Excellent! It became very busy around 1500 or so and the staff seemed to be able to keep up with the table service. I only ate there once, for breakfast, on my last day in the area: a "big breakfast" (pictured) was 180 baht plus, instead of an included coffee or tea, I paid and extra 30 baht for orange juice. Unlike my Friday and Saturday afternoon experiences with service, it was horrendous for me and the people at tables either side to get the attention of the wait staff to order additional food or drinks, get their bill, or ask for forgotten cutlery. I may put this down to a waitress's birthday the night before, being a huge party for regulars and staff alike, but there it is. However, my meal was just what I expected and, apart from trying to get attention to order them due to what seems to be a general lack of customer awareness, the further orange juices and a decent black coffee, was worth the money. The clientele weren't just NZers and Australians, either, with at least several Americans and Germans in the accents I picked up. Of course I will return. The whole of the beachside part of Jomtien is far superior to its equivalent in Pattaya, with the age and behaviours of the place being by far more mature. ...
Read moreI've wanted to visit this place for a long time after seeing the ads for it on Baht buses all over Pattaya. Unfortunately, Jomtien has been a little far away from my hotel in Central Pattaya.
I went there today for a Thai seafood curry and can certainly see the appeal and feel the atmosphere. The owner(s) were in attendance. You can always tell the difference between a bar/restaurant with absentee owners and involved owners. The place was almost fulltoo -- it's popular for good reason.
Two small things stood out with my meal. 1. The rice serving was generous. You'd be surprised how many restaurants try to short-change customers on something as low-cost and trivial as steamed white rice. 2. The squid was the best I've ever eaten. It had the softness of cheese, and was not chewy at all. In fact, I didn't even realise squid could be served that way.
Also, the curry sauce was creamy and delicious. It could have used a few more vegetables vs. the generous amount of sauce, but that's where my criticism finishes. I'm not a meat eater and probably look for vegetables more than most people.
I liked the amount of merchandise around the bar which was presumably for sale; and the fact a few loyal customers were wearing their shirts or caps. The owners are rightfully proud of their business.
I only wish my hotel was in Jomtien and I would certainly go there again for...
