KhaoLak Phu View — Restaurant in Phang-nga Province

Now, I'm a self confessed harsh critic of quality food, but after a recommendation of the 'view', up on hill, adjacent to the Sands hotel, we tried this place on our last night in Khaolak. The food was absolutely fantastic , except for spring rolls...they we ok though my Mrs liked but my daughter and I thought they tasted like coleslaw in a spring roll...not that bad really but f me, everything else was delicious. The 'thai' style prawns are the best prawns I've had- PERIOD. This includes back home in Australia, Singapore, Bali, Malaysia etc. They were immaculately cooked in what I can only describe as a panang style flavoured curry with some long green beans (chopped in battalions). They were relatively expensive in scheme of things here at around $9 each ($AU) or 180 thai bhat, but had a feeling they would be of good size...I was not let down. If you like prawns, drop anything and everything that you're doing and go to Phu View. Next time I'm in the area, I'll order just 5-6 of these prawns and some plain rice. Massaman chicken curry is also delicious with the right viscosity and protein to veg ratio. Thai style whole fried fish also super yum, crispy with a sweet,sour spicy sauce. Gotta be one of the best restaurants in Khao...

We got a recommendation for the Phu View by other guests. This restaurant offers a pickup service with a 4wd from your hotel so you don't need to walk the steep road by yourselves. Taxis can't get up to the restaurant (except 4wd)

Reservation is easy. Go to the homepage and use the WhatsApp function to contact the restaurant for a table and pickup time. Otherwise you can ask the receptionist of your hotel to call.

The Phu View is up in the hills and the first you will find is a spectacular view all over the coastline. You can watch beautiful sunsets while having dinner. The location has a warm and welcoming ambiente, the service is polite and helpful with all question to the meals.

The menu offers a good choice of Thai meals , veggie or with meat of your choice. Take your time when there and enjoy the view and the big variety of drinks and food. We came as a couple and ordered course by course. We shared some different starters, two main course and 3 deserts (it was hard to decide) All meals were delicious.

Try the shakes, I loved the fresh coconut shake.

The costs: You get a lot for what you pay. All meals are fresh cooked, the quality is good. We payed a total of around 1100B with all the meals and...

What a terrible experience just getting to the restaurant was chaos had booked through the hotel 3 days in advance. Booking confirmed and told to be ready at reception at 6 for pick up. Was ready at 5:50, driver arrived at 6 (3 groups waiting) driver had no idea how many and what groups in what order, he took 10 and left my party and i was told he would come straight back at that point I was only group of 6 still waiting, by the time second pick up arrived more than 30 minutes later, multiple groups were now waiting 30+ people. Tuk tuk arrived advising they were instructed to take up, get dropped at bottom of driveway told to wait again as tuk tuk can’t get up hill. Ten minutes later Ute comes up (with more guests whose booking was after ours and arrived in reception at 6:20) We were told to wait again 7:00pm came around and with 2 kids in tow we gave up, this restaurant just needs some basic organisation a list of who picking up and when In order of bookings would suffice rather than a free for all. In the end an hour after our booking time, we left and had a great meal at Jasmine Thai instead do yourself a favour and avoid the hassle of this restaurant so many good ones...
