I have not been to this beach for a number of years, but recently I took a trip here to check it out. The beach has changed with a few new hotels and some restructuring of the beach front restaurant scene... for the better I might add.
I was introduced to this restaurant through a local friend and liked it so much I had to write this review. The restaurant makes an assortment of Thai food dishes with a nice compliment of western standards thrown in for good measure. I never actually ate anything there but talked with a number of tourists that gave big thumbs up on the food.
What impressed me was the cleanliness of everything. The bar was neat, clean and organized as was the large and impeccably clean kitchen which, in my opinion, speaks volumes.
Equally as important was the really clean and nicely decorated on site toilet facilities. Now it may seem strange that I brought this up however, for those you that travel in this country you know all too well that this often a area that can make the difference between a nice place to eat and a great place to relax and enjoy your beach dining experience.
Oh did I mention the fresh fruit Daquiri's (like Mango....yummy) and frozen beer glasses. Perfect!
Definitely a must visit if...
Read moreDuring our vacation at the Grand Mercure Khao Lak, we ate at the Thap Tawan Beach Restaurant at least once a day. The ambience with a direct view of the sea is of course a dream. The staff around Bao are very friendly and welcoming. Bao also told us a lot about life in Thailand, which was very exciting. The food is also simply delicious. The portions are also really large and reasonably priced. For us, it's the best restaurant on this stretch of beach! 😊 We also never had any stomach problems after eating. On our last evening we even got a surprise from Bao and were allowed to let a sky lantern rise according to Thai tradition. We were overwhelmed by this kind gesture. Many thanks to the whole team for the great hospitality - keep up the good work! 😊
Bao, if you're reading this: "Immer langsam, immer mit der Ruhe" 😊

Tried a couple of the other beach front restaurants, but this one was by far the best. Really enjoyed the food (especially the fried papaya salad) and prices were very reasonable - plus no added service charges and taxes as per the hotels. Service was very quick most times, although we were never in any kind of a rush. Staff was excellent. They were always quick to respond to anything we needed and genuinely cared that we had a nice experience.
A big thank you to Paula and Oat for making our dinners very memorable each night and also to Paula for inviting us to the kitchen to learn how the fried papaya...
