The restaurant AROI DEE is our favourite; there are several other local places where menus and prices are more or less the same. However, they differ in quality of food preparation. And after about ten years of trying many times, my wife and I and quite a few expats have come to a joint conclusive judgement: AROI DEE is the best in the local environment. Moreover, quite unnoticed by visitors, the partners of the two sisters have specialised themselves to become the best cocktail mixers you can imagine. When they open a new Bar, which is the plan, the restaurant could become the most frequented meeting point for expats and long term tourists settled around.
So, it’s not surprising that we went there to celebrate my 87 birthday. Without a word or menu cards, they brought us a what we like most: Mochito and Blue Margarita, prawns tempura, a big fried fish with entourage and side dishes to celebrate! It was superb! We were very moved and tried to eat it all, impossible of course. After the main dish they all gathered around our table, formed a chorus and started a jubilee hymn in Dutch ( May he live long! ) and some English equivalents. The performance was concluded with a beautifully decorated, cake, with my chocolate portrait in the centre of the burning candles circle . It required some courage to start cutting a cake by decapitating one’s own image. (see pic) A formidable birthday celebration ever!

Read moreDuring our three month stay in Bangkwy village (between Cha Am and Hua Hin) we often go bicycling to a Thai restaurant Aroi Dee. It is run by two sisters, Ann (Jittra) and Tuk, and their partners plus Ann’s son Johan (11). Johan does very well at school and he speaks amazing good English. We know the place all for some ten years, when it was situated almost across the street at Vimanlay. Later it moved Southward to the village. It had to be closed in the COVID disaster. But with immense effort of both sisters and some help from the restaurant’s friends, it was re-opened this first of January, again in the village but at the opposite side of the road. Don’t ask about the difficult circumstances that had to be overcome in order to do that! We think, spoiled Westerners would not have been capable to do the same. Dr. Luba...
Read more“Breakfast” “food” here was absolutely terrible. Please see my pictures for what we ordered compared to what we got. I know Thailand is not big on western breakfast food, which is totally fine, but don’t advertise that you make waffles and pancakes if you have no idea how to. We really tried to eat it, but we had to give up after less than half of the meal. Will definitely never return and you should not eat here under any circumstance. 7-11 food is 100 times better and a fraction...
