Read moreOn Friday, January 3rd, we decided to have dinner at Peppina Restaurant. We arrived at 8:30 p.m. without a reservation, knowing the restaurant closed at 9:00 p.m.
The restaurant is located inside a hotel, so we parked our car and went through security and the reception staff to ask for directions. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we noticed it was a spacious venue with outdoor seating, including a beautiful garden area by the beach. Despite the restaurant's size, only two tables were occupied that evening, making the place almost empty.
The staff member who identified himself as the manager immediately stopped us and firmly said dogs were not allowed. We explained that our Golden Retriever is not only well-behaved but also well-trained, attending obedience school every weekend. He doesn’t bark, bite, or disturb anyone. We even suggested sitting in a secluded corner to avoid inconvenience to other guests. However, the manager repeatedly said “No, no, no” (and “mai dai” in Thai), showing no flexibility or understanding.
My husband, frustrated but determined to ensure our family could eat, insisted on sitting at a corner table. A waitress brought us menus, and we tried to proceed calmly. However, instead of calling the manager as we requested, the staff sent security, who reiterated the same message that dogs were not allowed. Meanwhile, the staff ignored us entirely and refused to take our order.
Left with no other option, I took our dog outside to the car so my kids could at least have dinner. However, standing outside hungry and excluded from the meal left me feeling humiliated. I realized I could not accept this situation and called my husband, asking him to leave the restaurant as well.
The situation escalated further when my husband was falsely accused of stealing the wine after the staff had already opened the bottle for him. To make matters worse, one waitress aggressively acted as though she wanted to punch my husband, and our two children witnessed this inappropriate behavior, leaving them distressed.
In the end, we left without eating, feeling disrespected and shocked by the staff’s unprofessional and rude behavior. As restaurant owners in Bangkok, we understand policies, but this experience went beyond enforcing rules—it showed a complete lack of basic hospitality, respect, and kindness.
For families who love dining out with their pets, especially well-behaved ones, this restaurant may not be the most welcoming choice. We sincerely hope the management reconsiders its approach and accommodates families with pets more thoughtfully. Hospitality is about creating comfort for all guests, and this experience failed on...
Read moreBangkok residents who have eaten at Peppina fairly regularly at many of their branches and so when we wanted a change from Thai or seafood we headed here with a clear idea of what we were in for.
Others have said it is kind of pricey but that’s usually the way for western food in Thailand so please don’t expect anything cheap and cheerful.
We went for the usual selection of pizza (truffle) Arrabiata penne, the steak and the chicken.
It was pretty much the same tasty standard that we’ve experienced at other Peppina’s and that was what we were hoping and expecting when we selected this for our dinner choice.
The steak was cooked beautifully as we’d asked, the chicken was succulent and flavour filled (I’m guessing it was sous vided) the pizza was delicious, the pasta was ok but didn’t get the tastebuds dancing.
The restaurant is set in a lovely location, with open air dining area down by the beach with clear views across the sea to the horizon. Luckily when we were dined there was a lovely cooling breeze which made it pleasant to be dining outdoors. (Also I don’t remember Mosquitoes being too much of an issue)
I have to comment that we went for dinner and went for lunch and had two totally different experiences in terms of service.
When the restaurant is full at dinner although there are lots of staff there doesn’t seem to be much organization or anyone controlling the dining room, thank goodness the kitchen was still able to perform admirably and the food came out at the expected standard.
Lunch is a much more quieter affair with less staff around but yet they were more attentive and on hand to assist.
I suppose as much a recommendation is the fact that we went back for lunch (even after our first dinner) when our two boys rounded off the meal with a Nutella covered pizza which they requested specifically after missing it on our...
